A single-laboratory method validation was conducted to establish the effectiveness of an immunoaffinity column cleanup procedure followed by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) for the determination of fumonisins B-1 and B-2 (FB1 + FB2) in corn. The test portion is extracted with acetonitrile-methanol-water (25 + 25 + 50). The extract is filtered, diluted with phosphate-buffered saline solution, and applied to an immunoaffinity column. FB1 + FB2 are removed with methanol and directly determined by reversed-phase LC with MS detection using selected-ion monitoring of 2 characteristic ions in each case. Test portions of blank corn samples were spiked with a mixture of FB1 + FB2 to give total levels of 200 and 500 ng/g, respectively. Recoveries of both FB1 and FB2 from spiked samples averaged 90.4-101%. Based on results for spiked raw corn (triplicates at 2 levels), the relative standard deviation for repeatability ranged from 2.8 to 7.1%. The accuracy of the method was demonstrated by analysis of Food Analysis Performance Assessment Scheme (FAPAS (R)) test material. The method was also applied to a small survey of processed corn products such as corn chips, cornflakes, and popcorn.

Determination of Fumonisins B-1 and B-2 in Corn by LC/MS with Immunoaffinity Column Cleanup: Interlaboratory Study
Senyuva, Hamide Z.; Gilbert, John; Stroka, Joerg (2010-03-01)
An interlaboratory validation study was conducted to establish the method performance characteristics of an immunoaffinity column (IAC) cleanup procedure followed by LC/MS for the determination of fumonisins B-1 (FB1) and B-2 (FB2) and combined FB1 + FB2 in corn. The test portion is extracted with acetonitrile methanol water (25 + 25 + 50). The extract is filtered, diluted with phosphate-buffered saline solution, and applied to an IAC. FB1 and FB2 are removed with methanol, followed by water, then directly ...
Determination of volatile organic compounds in different microenvironments by multibed adsorption and short-path thermal desorption followed by gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis
Oznur, Kuntasal; Deniz, Karman; Daniel, Wang; TUNCEL, SEMRA; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2005-12-16)
A multiphase assurance approach was developed for the accurate and precise determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in different microenvironments. This approach includes (i) development of a method including adsorption of VOCs onto a multisorbent media followed by short-path thermal desorption (SPTD) pre-concentration and gas chromatography (GC) coupled to a mass spectrometry (MS) quantification, (ii) validation of the sampling and analytical method and (iii) validation of the data using a multid...
Determination of Selected Endocrine Disrupter Compounds at Trace Levels in Sewage Sludge Samples
Sonmez, Munire Selcen; Muz, Melis; Komesli, Okan Tarik; BAKIRDERE, Sezgin; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (2012-09-01)
Simultaneous determination of endocrine disrupter compounds (EDCs), namely diltiazem, progesterone, benzylbutylphthalate (BBP), estrone, and carbamazepine (Cbz) were performed by using high performance LC-electrospray tandem MS. The ultrasound-aided sequential extraction of sludge samples was optimized to increase extraction efficiencies of the analytes; ranging between 93.0-98.3% recovery. The limit of detection values for diltiazem, progesterone, BBP, estrone, and Cbz were found as 0.78, 0.72, 0.24, 0.75,...
Characterization of the polymer of a dipyrrolyl monomer by pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Ertas, Merve; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2004-08-01)
In this work, characterization of a homopolymer of succinic acid bis(4-pyrrol-1-ylphenyl) ester prepared by galvonastatic polymerization was carried out by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Although decomposition of the monomer yielding mainly butadionic acid and pyrrole occurred under the galvonastatic polymerization conditions, growth of the polymer through the pyrrole moieties was also achieved, yielding a ladder-type polymer film. The polypyrrole chains contained both quinoid and aromatic units as in ...
Determination of Arsenobetaine in Fish Tissue by Species Specific Isotope Dilution LC-LTQ-Orbitrap-MS and Standard Addition LC-ICPMS
Yang, Lu; Ding, Jianfu; Maxwell, Paulette; McCooeye, Margaret; Windust, Anthony; Ouerdane, Laurent; Bakirdere, Sezgin; Willie, Scott; Mester, Zoltan (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2011-05-01)
An accurate and precise method for the determination of arsenobetaine (AsB, (CH(3))(3)(+)AsCH(2)COO(-)) in fish samples using exact matching species specific isotope dilution (ID) liquid chromatography LTQ:Orbitrap mass spectrometry (LC-LTQ-Orbitrap-MS) and standard addition LC inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LC-ICPMS) is described. Samples were extracted by sonication for 30 min with high purity deionized water. An in-house synthesized (13)C enriched AsB spike was used for species specific ID...
