Effects of Water Soluble Garlic Extract on Human Leukemia HL60 Cell Lines

İşcan, Mesude
Purpose: Studies with garlic have shown the medicinal value of the plant by its antioxidant potential which is exerted by its organosulfur rich content. In this study, the aim is to determine any potential antioxidant efficacy of the less toxic water soluble extract of a widely cultivated garlic form in Turkey, in terms of alterations on the oxidant/antioxidant status of HL60 promyelocytic leukemia cell line.

Effects of Medicinal Plant Sanguisorba minor Subsp. balearica on Selected CYP450 Isozymes and Proinflammatory Cytokines Activity in Inflammation Induced Rat Model: An Immunochemical Approach
inan Genç, Aysun; Adalı, Orhan; Gençler Özkan, Ayşe Mine; Department of Biochemistry (2021-7-01)
Medicinal uses of plant extracts have been based on traditional knowledge without enough scientific evidence. Sanguisorba minor subsp. balearica was used traditionally to treat various diseases. This study was performed to evaluate the antiinflammatory effect of Smb. Experimental groups are; healthy control, CFA control, diclofenac sodium, quercetin, and 34-70mg/kg Smb treated groups. Antiinflammatory effect was examined on Complete Freund’s Adjuvant model, using biochemical, immunohistopathological, immuno...
Effect of high hydrostatic pressure on the functional properties of soy protein isolate
Zengin, Kübra; Alpas, Hami; Department of Food Engineering (2022-2-11)
Soy protein is a low-cost additive with high biological value, unique functional properties, and beneficial effects on health, and it is widely used in the food industry as an important ingredient. When the health and functional properties of soy protein are considered altogether, there are several benefits for consuming and using it in foods. High hydrostatic pressure (HHP) is a non-thermal novel processing technology that has been generally used to destroys vegetative cells, microorganisms and enzymes. Ad...
Effect of emodin on doxorubicin-induced cytotoxicity and apoptosis on MCF-7 and MCF-10a cells
Kaya, Bade; Güray, Tülin; Uyar, Pembegül; Department of Biology (2014)
Emodin (3-Methyl-1,6,8-trihydroxyanthraquinone), is a phytoestrogenic component of Rheum and Polygonum plant extracts which has been used to treat several diseases since ancient times. It has been shown to have anti-microbial, anti-oxidant and anti-cancer effects in nature. The anti-tumor drug doxorubicin, a widely used chemotherapeutic agent, is used for the treatment of many cancer types including lung, gastric, ovarian and breast cancer. In this study, the effects of pre-, co- and alone treatment of doxo...
Effects of acrylamide and resveratrol on rabbit liver and kidney antioxidant enzymes
Kalın, Çiğdem; Arınç, Emel; Department of Biology (2009)
Resveratrol is one of the promising naturally occurring polyphenolic compound found in red wine having antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties. However, in vivo studies investigating the effects of resveratrol on antioxidant enzymes are limited. In the present study, we investigated, for the first time, the influence of resveratrol on liver and kidney antioxidant enzymes and oxidative stress markers in acrylamide treated and control rabbits. New Zealand male rabbits were treated with acrylamide and res...
