This paper proposes a mathematical system model and a related novel system calibration method for acoustic based shooter detection system with multi microphone array which utilizes muzzle blast and shockwave due to bullet physics. System calibration method estimates system parameters namely, sound speed, bullet speed, and microphone array position from a single shot to improve shooter localization accuracy. In this paper the overall system architecture and system implementation of acoustic sensor node for distributed wireless acoustic shooter localization system are also presented.

Sensor layout optimization using genetic algorithm for sniper localization systems
Doğan, Emir; Çiloğlu, Tolga; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
This thesis proposes sensor layout optimization for a sniper localization system based on acoustic signatures of firearms such as ballistic shockwave and muzzle blast. This thesis consists of three main parts as sniper localization system simulator, estimation framework, and sensor layout optimization. The simulator provides the sniper localization system outline, transmission model of acoustic signals, muzzle blast, and shockwave modeling. The estimation framework comprises of the direction of arrival esti...

Konukseven, Erhan İlhan (2000-08-31)
This paper presents a cost-efficient end-effector based infrared proximity sensor integration system and the implementation of fuzzy-logic control algorithm.
Multi target tracking with acoustic power measurements using emitted power density
Orguner, Umut (null; 2010-07-29)
This paper presents a method to achieve multi target tracking using acoustic power measurements obtained from an acoustic sensor network. We first present a novel concept called emitted power density (EPD) which is an aggregate information state that holds the emitted power distribution of all targets in the scene over the target state space. It is possible to find prediction and measurement update formulas for an EPD which is conceptually similar to a probability hypothesis density (PHD). We propose a Gaus...
340 GHz imaging system for detection of concealed threat objects at 5 meters stand-off distance (Conference Presentation)
YILDIRIM, İHSAN OZAN; ÖZKAN, VEDAT ALİ; TAKAN, TAYLAN; ŞAHİN, ASAF BEHZAT; Altan, Hakan (2017-01-27)
A THz active scanned imaging system is developed for detection of concealed threat objects at a stand-off distance of 5 meters. Single pixel, active imaging system utilizes a continuous wave transceiver unit operating at 340 GHz, based on RF components and Schottky diode rectifiers. The transceiver has a heterodyne detection geometry and has 7 mW total power output which is derived from a 3dB directional coupler (25 dB directivity) and a horn antenna. 2D opto-mechanical scanning is performed using two mirro...
OBJECT RECOGNITION AND LOCALIZATION WITH ULTRASONIC-SCANNING
KIRAGI, H; Ersak, Aydın (1994-04-14)
In this paper an object recognition and localization system based on ultrasonic range imaging to be used in optically opaque environments is introduced. The system is especially designed for robotics applications. The ultrasonic image is acquired by scanning ultrasonic transducers in two dimensions above the area where objects are located. The features that are used for recognition and localization processes are extracted from the outermost boundaries of the objects present in the input scene. Experimental ...
