In the Artvin-Kafkasor ore deposit gold and silver are the main precious metals and are associated with quartz and limonite. In the present investigation, a fungal culture isolated from a mine water was tested under laboratory conditions for its bioleaching potential for enhancing silver recovery prior to cyanidation. The silver recovery was expressed as both the silver dissolved after biotreatment and that recovered after cyanidation following biotreatment. Silver recovery increased as a function of fungal pretreatment time. After 40 days, silver recovery was about 83% (of which 15% was due to direct microbial action). The recovery by cyanidation alone, on the other hand (as observed with the uninoculated control), was 53%. These results suggest that the microbial action favours a more effective cyanidation by changing the physical properties of the ore.

Assessment of grinding additives for promoting chromite liberation
Camalan, Mahmut; Hoşten, Çetin (Elsevier BV, 2019-06-01)
Liberation of the valuable minerals of an ore from its gangue is a prerequisite for the economic recovery of the valuable minerals to concentrates. Mineral liberation is achieved by reducing the size of ore particles in various crushing and grinding devices. The fineness to which the ore must be ground, so as to yield sufficient degrees of liberation, increases if the valuable minerals with small grain sizes are disseminated throughout the gangue. Intensive fine grinding, however, increases energy costs and...
Use of waste pyrite from mineral processing plants in soil remediation
Aydın, Gülşen; Arol, Ali İhsan; Department of Mining Engineering (2011)
Pyrite (FeS2) is commonly present in complex sulphide ores in significant amounts. After the enrichment of such ores by flotation, pyrite is either produced as a separate concentrate and sold to acid manufactures or removed and disposed off as tailing. Due to lack of demand from manufacturers, most of pyrites is usually disposed off as tailing. Therefore, pyrite is usually a waste from complex sulphide ores. Yet, it may be a remediation additive for calcareous soils and calcareous- alkali soils deficient in...
An approach on dilution and ore recovery / loss calculations in minearal reserve estimations at the Cayeli mine, Turkey
Soyer, Nihat; Güyagüler, Tevfik; Department of Mining Engineering (2006)
Dilution and ore recovery/loss have an important role in calculation of mineral reserves. Each percent increase in dilution and decrease in recovery negatively affects economic value of the reserve. These parameters are mainly controlled by the quality of the mine design and stoping practice. This study provides an approach developed for dilution and recovery/ore loss calculations. The contribution of mine design software (MineSight) and the recent survey technique called Cavity Monitoring System (CMS) were...
Nickel resource setimation and reconciliation at Türkmençardağı laterite deposits
Gençtürk, Bilgehan; Karpuz, Celal; Department of Mining Engineering (2012)
In recent years nickel is mostly produced from lateritic ore deposits such as nontronite, limonite, etc. Resource estimation is difficult for laterite deposits as they have a weak and heterogeneous form. 3D modeling software are rather suitable for deposits having tabular or vein type ores. In this study the most appropriate estimation technique for resource estimation of nickel laterite deposits was investigated. One of the known nickel laterite deposits in Turkey is located at Türkmençardağı - Gördes regi...
Investigation of structural, electrical and optical properties of CU1-XAGXINSE2 thin films as a function of X content
Güllü, Hasan Hüseyin; Parlak, Mehmet; Department of Physics (2010)
In this work, we will focus on the quaternary system Cu1-xAgxInSe2 (CAIS) to investigate the effects of silver (Ag) contribution and exchange with copper (Cu) in CuInSe2. This system is located between the ternary semiconducting chalcopyrite compounds CuInSe2 and AgInSe2. These are two most popular materials applied in photovoltaic cells because of their high optical absorption coefficient, which is an important factor for the manufacture of devices, direct energy gap with values Eg ~1.05 and 1.24 eV, respe...
