Temporal variations and sources of elements in the South Pole atmosphere: 1. Nonenriched and moderately enriched elements
Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; ZOLLER, WH (American Geophysical Union (AGU), 1989-09-20)
Abstract High‐volume particle samples were collected from 1979 to 1983 from the south pole atmosphere and analyzed by nuclear methods. The new results are combined with similar studies at the south pole. There is no trend of concentrations during 12 years of sampling, but concentrations of elements fluctuate through seasonal cycles. Concentrations of elements associated with crustal dust and sea salt showed opposite seasonal variations. Concentrations of most crustal elements are low during winters, but dou...
Climate change impact assessment on mild and extreme drought events using copulas over Ankara, Turkey
Afshar, Mahdı Hesamı ; Tosunoglu, Fatih; Bulut, Burak; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-08-01)
Climate change, one of the major environmental challenges facing mankind, has caused intermittent droughts in many regions resulting in reduced water resources. This study investigated the impact of climate change on the characteristics (occurrence, duration, and severity) of meteorological drought across Ankara, Turkey. To this end, the observed monthly rainfall series from five meteorology stations scattered across Ankara Province as well as dynamically downscaled outputs of three global climate models th...
Climate change impacts on snowmelt runoff for mountainous transboundary basins in eastern Turkey
Yücel, İsmail; Şen, Ömer Lütfi (Wiley, 2015-02-01)
This study investigates whether snowmelt runoff for the selected 15 streamflow stations located in the Euphrates, Tigris, Aras, and Coruh basins in eastern Anatolia, Turkey, has shown a consistent hydrologic response to global climatic changes over the past several decades. It also investigates the future runoff changes in these basins. The analysis utilizes streamflow and meteorological data from 1970 to 2010 available within the study area to identify spatial and temporal patterns of trends in the seasona...
Modeling Temperature and Pricing Weather Derivatives Based on Temperature
Tastan, Birhan; Hayfavi, Azize (2017-01-01)
This study first proposes a temperature model to calculate the temperature indices upon which temperature-based derivatives are written. The model is designed as a mean-reverting process driven by a Levy process to represent jumps and other features of temperature. Temperature indices are mainly measured as deviations from a base temperature, and, hence, the proposed model includes jumps because they may constitute an important part of this deviation for some locations. The estimated value of a temperature ...
CHANGES IN THE HYDROCHEMISTRY OF THE BLACK-SEA INFERRED FROM WATER DENSITY PROFILES
TUĞRUL, SÜLEYMAN; BASTURK, O; SAYDAM, C; Yılmaz, Ayşen (1992-09-10)
DURING the past two decades, catastrophic changes have occurred in the Black Sea ecosystem: the influx of pollution from the major rivers has caused intense eutrophication at the northwest coastal margin1, and fish stocks have collapsed throughout the sea2. The hydrochemical details of these events are still poorly understood3-7, and a way needs to be found to distinguish long-term variations from short-term natural fluctuations3,4 if future management of the Black Sea ecosystem is to be successful. We show...
