In this paper, we study the performance of an antenna switching (AS) system in a multipath Rayleigh fading channel in comparison to an Alamouti coded system. We propose a minimum mean-squared error based iterative equalizer for the multi-antenna system. In the proposed receiver, MMSE equalization and channel decoding are jointly carried out at each iteration by using the a priori probabilities from previous iterations. It is observed that Alamouti based scheme performs better when the channel state information is perfect. It turns out that the antenna switching based system performs significantly better in the case of imperfect channel state information.

MMSE based iterative turbo equalization for antenna switching sytems
Yıldırım, Recep Ali; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, we study the performance of an antenna switching (AS) system in comparison to an Alamouti coded system. We analyze the outage probabilities and propose minimum mean-squared error based iterative equalizers for both systems. We see from the outage probability analysis of both systems that the AS system may achieve the same diversity order of the Alamouti coded scheme contingent on the transmission rate and constellation size. In the proposed receiver, MMSE equalization and channel decoding ar...
An Adaptive-Iterative Nonlinear Interference Cancellation in Time-Varying Full-Duplex Channels
Kurt, Anıl; Salman, Murat Babek; Saraç, Uğur Berkay; Güvensen, Gökhan Muzaffer (2022-01-01)
In this paper, first, the sensitivity of traditional Full-Duplex (FD) communication systems to time variation in the self-interference (SI) channel is demonstrated via performance analysis. It is seen that conventional schemes are not capable of providing efficient operation regarding practical concerns such as spectral efficiency, SI channel aging and learning accuracy, and the contamination of signal-of-interest (SoI). Then, in regard to the aforementioned concerns, a practical FD operation together with ...
Maximal Ratio Combining with Energy Harvesting Multi-Antenna Receivers
Uctu, Goksel; Yüksel Turgut, Ayşe Melda (2015-01-01)
In this study, we consider a wireless communication system in a point-to-point fading channel with additive white Gaussian noise. The relationship between consumed energy on sampling and decoding processes at the receiver side is a known fact. Accordingly, a receiver model that has two antennas combined with maximal ratio combining technique is considered and energy consumptions of such a system on sampling and decoding processes are evaluated. Total energy consumptions of both systems are compared under va...
Effects of modulation type on blind SIMO commmunications systems
Karakutuk, Serkan; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2007-06-13)
In frame based communication systems, blind identification of frame length and offset from limited number of observations has an important affect on the performance of blind channel identification and equalization algorithms. In [1], for guard interval transmission schemes, a novel blind frame length and offset estimation method is proposed. In this paper, the performance of methods proposed in [1] for fixed frame length transmission are studied.
On the Carrier Frequency Offset Estimation for Frequency Hopping Burst Mode Mobile Radio
Güvensen, Gökhan Muzaffer; Tanık, Yalçın; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (2010-11-03)
In this paper, we evaluate the Cramer-Rao bounds (CRB) for the estimation of the carrier frequency offset (CFO) for general QAM modulations with no knowledge of the transmitted sequence (blind operation) in frequency hopping (FH) based short burst mode mobile radios. We investigate the blind CFO estimation problem in FH based mobile system that uses multiple short narrowband bursts in different frequency channels for the transmission of one packet. Joint blind channel and CFO estimation over multiple freque...
