Maximal Ratio Combining with Energy Harvesting Multi-Antenna Receivers

2015-01-01
In this study, we consider a wireless communication system in a point-to-point fading channel with additive white Gaussian noise. The relationship between consumed energy on sampling and decoding processes at the receiver side is a known fact. Accordingly, a receiver model that has two antennas combined with maximal ratio combining technique is considered and energy consumptions of such a system on sampling and decoding processes are evaluated. Total energy consumptions of both systems are compared under various data rates. The results show that the receiver model with two antennas consumed less energy on high data rates; however, using the receiver model with single antenna when the data rate is significantly low is more efficient.

Optimal Power Allocation for Average Detection Probability Criterion Over Flat Fading Channels
Sarıtaş, Serkan; Sezer, Ahmet Dundar; Gezici, Sinan; Yuksel, Serdar (2017-03-01)
In this paper, the problem of optimal power allocation over flat fading additive white Gaussian noise channels is considered for maximizing the average detection probability of a signal emitted from a power constrained transmitter in the Neyman-Pearson framework. It is assumed that the transmitter can perform power adaptation under peak and average power constraints based on the channel state information fed back by the receiver. Using results from measure theory and convex analysis, it is shown that this o...
Factor graph based linear minimum mean square error equalization for wireless communications /
Şen, Pınar; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
In this work, we have studied on a reduced complexity factor graph based linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) filter as an equalizer for different wireless communication problems. First, we introduce an efficient way of computing extrinsic bit log-likelihood ratio (LLR) values for the LMMSE estimation through the previously presented graph structure in the literature compatible with higher order alphabets. In addition, we propose to adapt this graph structure so that it has the ability of including the ...
High data rate X-band transmitter for low Earth orbit satellites
Sunay, Hacer K.; Ismailoglu, Neslin; Kirilmaz, Tunahan; Dudak, Celal; Sen, Ozlem A. (2007-04-26)
Main purpose of this study is to design a transmitter with data rates up to 100 Mbps, having QPSK/OQPSK modulation and 7 W (38.5 dBm) output power at 8.2 GHz. This output power satisfies the link budget for a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite at 700 km, utilizing required source-channel coding schemes in baseband for a BER performance of 10(-6). The modulation scheme of the transmitter can be selected as BPSK, QPSK or OQPSK. In addition to QPSK/OQPSK modulation scheme choice, the transmitter will have three d...
Improving the efficiency of microwave power amplifiers without linearity degradation using load and bias tuning in a new configuration
Ronaghzadeh, Amin; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
Advanced digital modulation schemes used in the wireless applications, result in the modulated RF signals with high peak to average power ratio which requires linear amplification. On the other hand, the demand for a longer talk time with less battery volume and weight, especially in hand-held radio units, necessitate more power efficient methods to be utilized in power amplifier design. But improved linearity and efficiency have always been contradicting requirements demanding innovative power amplifier and...
Time-resolved XPS analysis of the SiO2/Si system in the millisecond range
Demirok, UK; Ertaş, Gülay; Suzer, S (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2004-04-29)
By applying voltage pulses to the sample rod while recording the spectrum, we show, for the first time, that it is possible to obtain a time-resolved XPS spectrum in the millisecond range. The Si 2p spectrum of a silicon sample containing a ca. 400-nm oxide layer displays a time-dependent charging shift of ca. 1.7 eV with respect to the Au 4f peaks of a gold metal strip in contact with the sample. When gold is deposited as C-12-thiol-capped nanoclusters onto the same sample, this time the Au 4f peaks also d...
