In this study, a new method is proposed to verify the estimated effective medium parameters which are extracted from the transmission and reflection characteristics of metamaterial arrays. For this purpose, transmission and reflection characteristics of a broadside-coupled split ring resonator (BC-SRR) array are obtained by using CST Microwave Studio (CST MWS) and effective medium parameters (εeff and μeff) are extracted from these data. The extracted parameters are fitted to the Lorentz model and Lorentz parameters are obtained. These Lorentz parameters are used to construct an equivalent dispersive homogeneous slab in CST MWS. In the last stage, the transmission and reflection characteristics obtained from BC-SRR array and from the newly defined homogeneous medium are compared and the extracted effective medium parameters are verified. © 2011 IEEE.

An Efficient Approach for Evaluation of Multilayered Media Green's Functions
ÖZGÜN, ÖZLEM; Li, Chao; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa; Mittra, Raj (2021-01-01)
© 2021 IEEE.In this study, a novel approach is presented for efficient evaluation of Sommerfeld integrals arising in spatial-domain Green's functions in planar multilayered media. This approach allows us to tackle the difficulties encountered during the integration of the Sommerfeld integrals, which exhibit highly oscillatory and slowly decaying nature occurring especially at very high frequencies, e.g., at millimeter waves, that are finding increasing use in applications such as 5G and beyond. The oscillat...
New method for investigation of parameters of real thermoelectric modules
AHISKA, RAŞİT; Ahiska, K. (Elsevier BV, 2010-02-01)
In the present study, a new method to investigate all output parameters of a thermoelectric module has been developed. The new method bases on the thermoemf measurement of a working module and the comparison of the results with those of classical methods. The new method is employed in investigation of the parameters of a standard thermoelectric module of Melcor with production code of CP1.0-127-05L. The theoretical results calculated by the means of new and classical methods for the parameters of an actual ...
A new method for automated estimation of joint roughness coefficient for 2D surface profiles using power spectral density
Unlusoy, Deniz; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi (Elsevier BV, 2020-01-01)
In this study, a new method for the objective and accurate estimation of the joint roughness coefficient (JRC) of surface profiles, which are extracted from terrestrial laser scanner point clouds, is proposed. The requirements of objectivity, accuracy, reliability, and suitability for automatic analysis have been the basic criteria in assessing the performance of the procedure for JRC estimation. The procedure to estimate the JRC value of a sample profile is based on a similarity measure, between the third-...
A statistical approach to sparse multi-scale phase-based stereo
Ulusoy, İlkay (Elsevier BV, 2007-09-01)
In this study, a multi-scale phase based sparse disparity algorithm and a probabilistic model for matching uncertain phase are proposed. The features used are oriented edges extracted using steerable filters. Feature correspondences are estimated using phase-similarity at multiple scale using a magnitude weighting scheme. In order to achieve sub-pixel accuracy in disparity, we use a fine tuning procedure which employs the phase difference between corresponding feature points. We also derive a probabilistic ...
A New Approach to Automatic Road Extraction from Satellite Images using Boosted Classifiers
CINAR, UMUT; KARAMAN, ERSİN; GEDİK, EKIN; ÇETİN, YASEMİN; Halıcı, Uğur (2012-09-26)
In this study, a supervised method for automatic road detection based on spectral indices and structural properties is proposed. The need of generalizing the spectral features for the images captured by different kinds of devices is investigated. Mean-shift segmentation algorithm is employed to partition the input multi-spectral image in addition to k-means which is used as a complementary method for structural feature generation. Adaboost learning algorithm is utilized with extracted features to distinguis...
