A new Differential Rectification Method (DRM) for frame cameras is proposed by Karslioglu and Friedrich [1] for the generation of orthoimages from monoscopic digital images which map every pixel onto a curved surface of reference frame i.e. WGS84. The ellipsoidal geodetic coordinates, of each pixel are calculated directly under the condition that a precise enough elevation model is available avoiding additional earth curvature corrections after the rectification. In this paper, convergence of the differential rectification method (DRM) is improved and its rectification accuracy is compared with five of the existing methods. Interior and exterior camera and atmospheric refraction parameters are taken into account in the rectification procedure of DRM. Additionally, effect of inclined camera direction and threshold value assigned for convergence criteria of DRM on the number of iterations and rectified coordinates are examined. It is seen that the accuracy of DRM is considerably better than the tested methods which indicates that DRM can be used by confidence. Furthermore, assigning too small threshold value does not improve the rectification results but however it increases the required number of iterations for the convergence of the relief displacement algorithm.

Measurement correction of a set of analog sun sensors via neural network
Sozen, Semsettin Numan; Gokce, Murat; Yavuzyilmaz, Cagatay; Gulmammadov, Farid; Söken, Halil Ersin (2021-06-23)
A Neural Network (NN) based method to improve the accuracy of a set of analog Sun sensors is presented. Analog Sun Sensors are commonly used on satellites due to their reduced cost, small size and low power consumption. However, especially in Earth imaging satellites, they are prone to the Earth albedo effects. Magnitude and direction of albedo change depending on the reflection characteristics of the Earth's surface, position and attitude of the satellite and position of the Sun. The albedo may deteriorate...
PROGRESSIVE COMPRESSION OF DIGITAL ELEVATION DATA USING MESHES
Kose, Kivanc; Yılmaz, Erdal; ÇETİN, AHMET ENİS (2009-07-17)
In this paper a new Digital Elevation Map (DEM) image compression algorithm is proposed. DEM image can be threated as a grayscale image, whose pixel values are the elevation values of the map points. The grayscale DEM image is compressed using an adaptive wavelet based image compression algorithm. The method, which is an extension of the progressive mesh compression takes advantage of the multiresolution property of the wavelets while coding the map images. This makes it possible to decode different resolut...
Statistical Analysis and Directional Coding of Layer-based HDR Image Coding Residue
Feyiz, Kutan; Kamışlı, Fatih; Zerman, Emin; Valenzise, Giuseppe; Koz, Alper; Dufaux, Frederic (2017-10-18)
Existing methods for layer-based backward compatible high dynamic range (HDR) image and video coding mostly focus on the rate-distortion optimization of base layer while neglecting the encoding of the residue signal in the enhancement layer. Although some recent studies handle residue coding by designing function based fixed global mapping curves for 8-bit conversion and exploiting standard codecs on the resulting 8-bit images, they do not take the local characteristics of residue blocks into account. Inspi...
Noise analysis and characterization of a sigma-delta/capacitive microaccelerometer
Külah, Haluk; Yazdi, N; Najafi, K (2006-02-01)
This paper reports a high-sensitivity low-noise capacitive accelerometer system with one micro-g/root Hz resolution. The accelerometer and interface electronics together operate as a second-order electromechanical sigma-delta modulator. A detailed noise analysis of electromechanical sigma-delta capacitive accelerometers with a final goal of achieving sub-jig resolution is also presented. The analysis and test results have shown that amplifier thermal and sensor charging reference voltage noises are dominant...
Alignment of uncalibrated images for multi-view classification
Arık, Sercan Ömer; Vural, Elif; Frossard, Pascal (2011-12-29)
Efficient solutions for the classification of multi-view images can be built on graph-based algorithms when little information is known about the scene or cameras. Such methods typically require a pairwise similarity measure between images, where a common choice is the Euclidean distance. However, the accuracy of the Euclidean distance as a similarity measure is restricted to cases where images are captured from nearby viewpoints. In settings with large transformations and viewpoint changes, alignment of im...
