Attitude and Orbit Control of a Solar Sail Spacecraft for Responsive Operational Concept
Polat, Halis Can; Tekinalp, Ozan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2021-6-15)
Utilization of the propellant-free thrust capability of Solar Sail Spacecraft (SSS) is addressed. For this purpose, an elliptical orbit with a very low perigee altitude and an apogee altitude high enough to have solar sail acceleration is proposed for Earth observation mission. In the mission part, regional observation tasks are carried out that take place in very Low Earth Orbit region. The orbit maintenance and control are handled in the high altitude regions. The baseline SSS design is accomplished and p...
A SIMPLIFIED MODEL FOR VIBRATING MASS CONTROL MOMENT GYROSCOPE
Akbulut, Burak; Arberkli, Ferhat; Azgın, Kıvanç; Tekinalp, Ozan (2017-02-09)
A novel satellite attitude actuator based on vibrating masses was previously proposed. Its governing equations were obtained and simulated. In this study, the resulting mathematical model is validated via energy as well as the conservation of angular momentum methods. Additionally, the mathematical model for the complete system was too complicated for analysis. In this work, a representative simplified set of equations describing vibrating mass control moment gyroscope (vCMG) dynamics in high fidelity are a...
Basic fibroblast growth factor loaded polypropylene meshes in repair of abdominal wall defects in rats
Heybeli, T.; Kulacoglu, H.; GENÇ, VOLKAN; Ergul, Z.; Ensari, C.; Kızıltay, Aysel; Yilmazer, D.; Serbetci, K.; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2010-11-01)
Background and Aim: Incisional hernia following laparotomy and recurrent herniation after its repair are still common problems in spite of mesh augmentation. The underlying biological mechanism may be related to collagen metabolism. Recently, some members of growth factors family have been tested in the prevention of wound failure and incisonal hernia formation. Growth factors may promote fibroblast proliferation and collagen deposition. In the present study, we searched the effects of basic fibroblast grow...
FTIR studies of vitamin E-cholesterol-DPPC membrane interactions in CH2 region
Severcan, Feride; Baykal, U; Suzer, S (1996-06-01)
Binary and ternary mixtures of alpha-tocopherol (alpha T), cholesterol and dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) in the form of multilamellar liposomes have been investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Investigation of frequencies, bandwidths and band shapes of CH2 stretching and scissoring bands indicate that the effect of alpha T is dominant in comparison with cholesterol and alpha T decreases the interaction of cholesterol with phospholipid membranes.
Effect of Openings on the Seismic Response of AAC Infilled Frames
Todorovic, Lana; Demirel, İsmail Ozan; Binici, Barış (2019-10-11)
Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is an attractive building material with lightweight, good insulation, fireproofing, and durability characteristics. The seismic response of AAC requires an in-depth understanding as its use as infill walls is gaining popularity in seismically active regions of many countries in Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Recent studies on the seismic response of AAC infill walls were mostly conducted on solid AAC walls without considering openings and simulated earthquake loading was ap...
