Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is an attractive building material with lightweight, good insulation, fireproofing, and durability characteristics. The seismic response of AAC requires an in-depth understanding as its use as infill walls is gaining popularity in seismically active regions of many countries in Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Recent studies on the seismic response of AAC infill walls were mostly conducted on solid AAC walls without considering openings and simulated earthquake loading was applied in the plane of the frame. In this study, recent tests on the out-of-plane and in-plane seismic response of AAC infill walls with openings were investigated experimentally. The door opening was considered for the purposes of the study. The limited deformation capacity of the AAC infill walls was observed. An innovative system to improve the performance of AAC infill walls was briefly discussed.

EFFECT OF ALLOYING ELEMENTS AND HEAT TREATMENT ON FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH BEHAVIOR OF FE-NI-BASED SUPERALLOYS
Topuz, Seher; Gürbüz, Rıza; Batıgün, Caner; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-12-02)
Fe-Ni-based superalloys are characterized by high strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance materials at room and elevated temperature applications. They are generally used in many parts requiring high toughness and ductility, such as aerospace, industrial gas turbine, and industrial components. The mechanical properties of Fe-Ni-based superalloys depend on three main effects. These alloying elements are added to the structure, working processes, and heat treatment. This study investigates the effect of...
Effect of Fly Ash Fineness on the Activation of Geopolymer Concrete
Aleessa Alam, Burhan; Yaman, İsmail Özgür (2012-10-05)
In the field of construction materials and particularly in concrete, cement is considered as a key element since it generates a strong and durable material through a simple hydration process. However, for many reasons (mainly economic and environmental) researchers are trying to find a new material that could replace cement or at least part of it as a binding agent in concrete. Regarding this issue, cement replacement materials like fly ash and slag have taken the lead during the last few decades. These mat...
Effect of specimen size, fiber type and concrete strength on the flexural performance of fiber reinforced concrete
Güzelce, Aydinç; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
To overcome the brittleness of concrete, fiber reinforcement is a commonly used material, which highly increases the toughness of concrete in a cost-effective way. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of different fiber parameters on the flexural behavior of fiber reinforced concrete. Bending tests were performed on two different beam sizes made of 20 different concrete batches. The type and amount of the fibers along with the grade of the concrete were changed to form this batch combination. The f...
Effect of fiber type and concrete strength on the energy absorption capacity of fiber reinforced concrete plates under quasi-static bending
Mercan, Ali Macit; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
With all the known solid advantages of concrete, it has also limitations in its mechanical properties, such as low ductility, tensile strength and energy absorption capacity/toughness. In order to eliminate or minimize these limitations, some developments have been worked up by introducing natural or artificial fibers into the concrete mixture. The main scope of this thesis is to observe the effect of different fiber types and dosages on the performance of two different concrete grades. Two steel fibers wit...
