Integrated three-dimensional television - capture, transmission and display (3DTV)

2008-8-31
A NoE addressing the 3DTV issues will be formed and kept operational. Creating exact 3D moving images as ghost-like replicas of 3D objects has been an ultimate goal in video science. Capturing 3D scenery, processing the captured data for transmission, and displaying the result for 3D viewing are the main functional components. These components encompass a wide range of disciplines: imaging and computer graphics, signal processing, telecommunications, electronics, optics and physics are needed. The primary objective is to align European researchers with diverse experience and activity in distinct, yet complementary, areas so that an effective network for achieving full scale 3D video capabilities integrated seemlessly to a more general information technology base (like internet), is established and kept functional for a long time. About 150 researchers from well known 20 institutions are committed. The NoE topic and the planed activities well coincide with the objectives of the IST Priority. The NoE will create a highly needed synergy among the European partners, at a critical time since 3DTV related research has been significantly accelerating throughout the world, and therefore will boost the European competitiveness. The activities are grouped under "integration activities", "jointly conducted research activities", "activities to spread excellence" and "management activities. Integration activities are diverse and include general research meetings, setting up internal communications/exchange infrastructure, developing the basis for common software libraries. There is a well- composed organizational structure and a strong management plan. Potential application areas will also be investigated. Social impact of 3DTV and gender related issues in technical research fields will be discussed. The technology level reached after the jointly conducted research activities will be presented as a set of deliverables for exploitation of results.

Advanced readout and control electronics for mems gyroscopes
Temiz, Yüksel; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
This thesis reports the development of advanced readout and control electronics for MEMS gyroscopes developed at METU. These gyroscope electronics are separated into three main groups: high sensitive interface circuits, drive mode amplitude controlled self oscillation loops, and sense mode phase sensitive amplitude demodulators. The proposed circuits are first implemented with discrete components, and then integrated on CMOS chips. A self oscillation loop enabling constant amplitude drive mode vibrations in...
Fully digital parallel operated switch-mode power supply modules for telecommunications
Kutluay, Koray; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
Digitally-controlled, high power universal telecommunication power supply modules have been developed. In this work, the converter control strategy, and its design and implementation first, by means of parallel-operated, dual, 8-bit microcontrollers, and then by using a high processing power digital signal processor (DSP) have been emphasized. The proposed dual-processor based digital controller provides an extended operating output voltage range of the power supplies, user programmable current limit settin...
Dual-band InGaAs nBn photodetectors at 2 mu m
Şahin, Alper; Gül, Musa Selim; Uzgur, Fatih; Kocaman, Serdar (2022-02-01)
An nBn type InGaAs photodetector structure operating at 2 mu m with dual-band operation capability has been numerically designed and experimentally characterized. A compositionally graded and unintentionally doped InGaAlAs layer with a delta-doped nano-layer behaves as the barrier for majority carrier flow. The pixels fabricated with a 20 mu m pitch mesa process yielded peak quantum efficiencies of 67% and 53% without anti-reflective coating for the e-SWIR and SWIR sides, respectively. Dark current measurem...
Evaluation of Turkey’s status using energy indicators for sustainable development and sustainability assessment of a hydropower project : a case study of Çetin Dam and HEPP
Vural Özünlü, Berna; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
One of the crucial problems of the new millennium is increasing energy demand due to development of technology. This energy demand is supplied by new power plants all over the world. In our time, just generating energy is not sufficient; it has to be realized in a sustainable manner from domestic resources as well. Any type of renewable energy that supports healthy environment, economic wealth, and social justice simultaneously for today’s usage without compromising future generations’ well-being and qualit...
A three phase all sic PWM rectifier for industry applications
Yolaçan, Cem; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
In this thesis work, a three phase PWM Rectifier for industry applications will be designed by using SiC Power MOSFETs and its laboratory prototype will then be implemented. The topology of the PWM rectifier is the three phase full bridge topology to convert three phase 400 V AC line-to-line voltage to desirable voltage levels between 500V and 1000V. The PWM Rectifier has the capability of permitting the flow of active power in both directions. The new technology SiC Power MOSFETs can operate at higher freq...
