Proje, etnik kökenleri konusunda yapılan tartışmalar yüzünden Türk ve Yunan tarihçiliğinde hiçbir zaman bilimsel bir araştırma konusu haline gelmemiş olan Türkçe konuşan Ortodoks Karamanlıları ele almaktadır. Proje, etnik köken tartışmalarının mesnetsizliğini ortaya koymanın yanı sıra, Karamanlılara diar şimdiye değin göz ardı edilimiş bir çok tarihsel belgeyi kullanmak suretiyle Karamanlıların yeni bir tarihini yazmayı hedeflemektedir. Bu bağlamda hem Türkiye hem de Yunanistan'da tespit edilmiş olan kaynaklar kullanılacaktır.
