THERMAL POLYMERIZATION OF BIS(TRIHALOPHENOXO)COPPER(II) COMPLEXES IN EXCESS DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE AND DIMETHYL-SULFOXIDE AS LIGANDS
KISAKUREK, D; SANLI, O (1989-08-01)
Thermal decomposition of bis(trihalophenoxo)copper(II) complexes was achieved at 50°C in dimethylformamide or dimethyl sulfoxide. The resulting polymers, poly(oxydihalophenylene)s (2), were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy and by differential scanning calorimetry. The molecular weights were determined by the vapour pressure method. Tribrominated phenol derivatives prefer 1,4‐substitution, whereas with trichlorophenol derivatives 1,2‐and 1,4‐substitutions take place at equal rates in ei...
Thermal decomposition studies on copper-chromium-silver impregnated activated charcoal
Bac, Nurcan; Hammarstrom, Janet L.; Sacco, Albert (Elsevier BV, 1987)
Thermal gravimetric analyses (TGA) were used to examine the thermal decomposition kinetics of ASC whetlerite, a copper-chromium-silver impregnated activated charcoal. In the low temperature region (< 490 K) the proposed decomposition reaction involves the reduction of the copper chromate species into a copper chromite form accompanied by the oxidation of the carbon support to carbon dioxide. The first order decomposition rate constant was determined to be kl = 1.22 × 103exp(− 4.4 × 104/RT). In the high temp...
DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF POTATO PUREE IN MICROWAVE FREQUENCY RANGE AS INFLUENCED BY CONCENTRATION AND TEMPERATURE
Ahmed, Jasim; Seyhun, Nadide; Ramaswamy, Hosahalli S.; Luciano, Giorgio (2009-01-01)
Dielectric properties of potato flour-water dispersions (slurry) were measured in the frequency range of 500-2500 MHz by the open-ended coaxial probe method using a network analyzer as a function of concentration (10-25% w/w) and temperature (20-75 degrees C). Both commercial and laboratory prepared samples of potato flours were used. Results indicated that the dielectric constant (') decreased with temperature and frequency while increased with concentration. The loss factor ('') increased with frequency a...
Temperature dependence of the thermal expansivity and the specific heat near the nematic-isotropic (NI) phase transition in PAA
Kilit, E.; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2008-02-15)
Temperature dependence of the thermal expansivity alpha(p) and the specific heat C-p has been studied for the nematic-isotropic (NI) phase transition (T-NI=133.9 degrees C) of PAA.
Hydrothermal vents as a kinetically stable source of iron-sulphide-bearing nanoparticles to the ocean
Yücel, Mustafa; Chan, Clara S.; Luther, George W. (2011-06-01)
Hydrothermal vents emit sulphur and metals to the ocean(1). Particular attention has been paid to hydrothermal fluxes of iron(2-4), a limiting micronutrient of marine primary production(5). Vent-derived iron was previously thought to rapidly oxidize and precipitate around vents(6). However, organic matter can bind to and stabilize dissolved and particulate iron in hydrothermal plumes(7-9), facilitating its dispersion into the open ocean(10). Here, we report measurements of the chemical speciation of sulphid...
