Identification and characterization of hydrolytic enzymes from the midgut of Sunn Pest of wheat (Eurygaster integriceps)
Ogur, E.; YÜCEL, MUSTAFA; Öktem, Hüseyin Avni (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
To help in the development of Sunn Pest-resistant transgenic plants employing protease or alpha-amylase inhibitors, midgut hydrolytic enzymes of Sunn Pest (Eurygaster integriceps, Put.) (Heteroptera: Scutelleridae) were identified and characterized biochemically. We observed levels of very low proteolytic activity of trypsin (3 nmoles/min/mg), elastase (0.66 nmoles/min/mg) and leucine aminopeptidase-like (14.4 nmoles/min/mg) proteases, but no chymotrypsin and papain-like activity. Proteolytic activities wer...
Identification and Characterization of 33 Bacillus cereus sensu lato Isolates from Agricultural Fields from Eleven Widely Distributed Countries by Whole Genome Sequencing
Zervas, Athanasios; Aggerbeck, Marie Ronne; Allaga, Henrietta; GÜZEL, MUSTAFA; Hendriks, Marc; Jonuskiene, IIona; Kedves, Orsolya; Kupeli, Ayse; Lamovsek, Janja; Muelner, Pascal; Munday, Denise; Namlı, Şahin; Samut, Hilal; Tomicic, Ruzica; Tomicic, Zorica; Yeni, Filiz; Zghal, Raida Zribi; Zhao, Xingchen; Sanchis-Borja, Vincent; Hendriksen, Niels Bohse (2020-12-01)
The phylogeny, identification, and characterization of 33 B. cereus sensu lato isolates originating from 17 agricultural soils from 11 countries were analyzed on the basis of whole genome sequencing. Phylogenetic analyses revealed all isolates are divided into six groups, which follows the generally accepted phylogenetic division of B. cereus sensu lato isolates. Four different identification methods resulted in a variation in the identity of the isolates, as none of the isolates were identified as the same...
Isolation characterization of the K4 type yeast killer toxin
Acun, Tolga; İzgü, Kadri Fatih; Department of Biology (2003)
Killer yeasts secrete polypeptide toxins which kill sensitive cells of their own species and frequently those of other species and genera of yeasts. These protein compounds are designated as killer toxins. Also killer toxins of certain yeast strains have potential growth inhibitory activity on gram-positive pathogenic bacteria and plant pathogenic fungi. The yeasts are immune to their own killer protein. The killer phenomenon can be utilized for the protection of fermentation process against contaminating y...
Characterization and analysis of the antioxidant capacity of functional phenolics oxidized by Scytalidium thermophilum catalase phenol oxidase (CATPO)
Söyler, Ulviye Betül; Ögel, Zümrüt Begüm; Şensoy, İlkay; Department of Food Engineering (2012)
Scytalidium thermophilum is a termophilic fungus that effectively produces the extracellular enzyme catalase phenol oxidase (CATPO). The enzyme is distinct among catalases with its bifunctionality of oxidising phenolic compounds in the absence of H2O2. CATPO is capable of oxidizing catechol, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid and catechin which are ortho –diphenolic compounds. Diphenolic compounds are known as strong antioxidants. Catalase is one of the important antioxidant enzymes. Therefore, in this thesis t...
Investigation of wheat genes involved in zinc efficiency mechanism using differential display technique
Türktaş, Mine; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Kocabıyık, Semra; Department of Biotechnology (2003)
Zinc is a metal involved in structure of many enzymes, in the growth and differentiation of plants. Wheat is one of the most consumed cereals. Some wheat cultivars can̕t deal with zinc deficiency and this situation not only reduces grain yield but also weakens the resistance of cereals to diseases and impairs the nutritional quality of the grain. Some wheat cultivars are not affected by zinc deficiency. In this study, ءdifferential display̕, used for determination differentially expressed genes between two ...
