Short-Term Flood Control and Long-Term Energy Maximization in Multi-reservoir Systems Using Improved Particle Swarm Optimization
Guvengir, Umut; Savaşaneril Tüfekci, Seçil; Altan Sakarya, Ayşe Burcu; Buhan, Serkan (2021-09-01)
In this study, a model is developed for short-term flood control of a complex multi-reservoir system located on one of the largest basins in Turkey. The managing body of the reservoirs requires that short-term real-time flood control is used in conjunction with the long-term operation for energy maximization. For this purpose, a novel operating framework is developed to couple short-term and long-term decisions. The resulting optimization problems are a large scale and nonlinear. Hence, the solution is main...
Short-term performance of MM5 with cloud-cover assimilation from satellite observations
Yücel, İsmail; GAO, XEİNG; SOROOSHİAN, SOROOSH (2003-08-01)
This study investigates the extent to which assimilating high-resolution remotely sensed cloud cover into the fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University-National Center for Atmospheric Research (PSU-NCAR) Mesoscale Model (MM5) provides an improved regional diagnosis of downward shortwave surface radiation fluxes and precipitation and enhances the model's ability to make short-range prediction. The high-resolution (4 km x 4 km) clear- and cloudy-sky radiances derived using a cloud-screening algorithm fro...
Prolonged reuse of domestic wastewater after membrane bioreactor treatment
KOMESLİ, Okan Tarık; Muz, Melis; Ak, Selcen; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (2015-03-20)
In this study, experience in a nine-year operation of a full-scale 2000 PE vacuum rotating membrane bioreactor having a submerged flat-type membrane module having pore size of 0.038 mu m and a total surface area of 540 m(2) is discussed. The plant was designed to treat and reuse raw wastewater collected from dormitories and the academic village at METU campus. Throughout the study, 99.99% BOD5 and above 95% COD removals were achieved most of the time. Moreover, turbidity was consistently measured below 1 NT...
