The crystallization of amorphous selenium (a-Se) films prepared by vacuum deposition at < 10−5torr onto aluminum substrates at 20°C was examined. The amorphous-to-crystalline transition was obtained by annealing the films between 70–85°C. The crystalline structures resulting from annealing at different temperatures have been identified by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). X-ray and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) studies revealed that these crystals were of hexagonal structure. The thicknesses of the deposited a-Se films studied in this work were 6250, 9250 and 18,400 Å. The thicknesses of the films were found to be an important parameter, affecting the growth rates of the crystallites, in correlation with the annealing temperatures and times. Upon annealing, crystallization started at the substrate-film interface and proceeded towards the free surface. The radii, r, of the crystallites were found to increase linearly with the increase in annealing time. The activation energies for crystallization, calculated under the assumption of an Arrhenius-type relationship between crystallite growth rate and annealing temperature, were found to increase with increases in the thickness of the films

Electroluminescence properties of a PIN structure made by nearly stoichiometric a-SiCx:H active layer
SEL, KIVANÇ; Akaoglu, Baris; ÖZDEMİR, Orhan; Atilgan, Ismail (Elsevier BV, 2009-01-01)
a-SiCx:H PIN diode has been fabricated within a single pump-down process under the same deposition conditions used for doped and undoped PECVD grown thin films, whose optical and electrical properties are determined and compared with a-Si:H. Current-voltage characteristics of PIN diode are evaluated and concluded to be limited by tunnelling of holes at p-i interface into valence band tail states. Electroluminescence measurements revealed radiative monomolecular recombinations. Deconvolution of the luminesce...
Optimization of n(+) nc-Si:H and a-SiNx:H layers for their application in nc-Si:H TFT
ANUTGAN, TAMİLA; Anutgan, Mustafa; Atilgan, Ismail; Katircioglu, Bayram (Elsevier BV, 2011-02-25)
The n-type doped silicon thin films were deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique at high and low H-2 dilutions. High H-2 dilution resulted in n(+) nanocrystalline silicon films (n(+) nc-Si:H) with the lower resistivity (rho similar to 0.7 Omega cm) compared to that of doped amorphous silicon films (similar to 900 0 cm) grown at low H-2 dilution. The change of the lateral rho of n(+) nc-Si:H films was measured by reducing the film thickness via gradual reactive ion etching. T...
BIOACTIVITY OF APATITE-WOLLASTONITE GLASS-CERAMICS PRODUCED BY MELTING CASTING
PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2013-02-01)
Glass-ceramics containing only apatite and wollastonite crystals were produced in the system MgO-CaO-SiO2-P2O5-F by the melt casting process. The bioactivity of the glass-ceramics was determined by immersing the glass-ceramics in a simulated body fluid (SBF) and by assessing the resulting apatite formation on the free surface after various immersion durations. A 12-mu m-thick apatite layer formed on the surface of the glass-ceramic containing only apatite crystals after 20 days immersion in SBF. However, th...
Adsorption calorimetry in supported catalyst characterization: Adsorption structure sensitivity on Pt/-gamma-Al2O3
Üner, Deniz (Elsevier BV, 2005-08-15)
In this study, the structure sensitivity of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon monoxide adsorption was investigated by changing the metal particle size of Pt/Al2O3 catalysts. The 2% Pt/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness method; the particle size of the catalysts was modified by calcining at different temperatures. The differential heats of adsorption of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and oxygen were measured using a SETARAM C80 Tian-Calvet calorimeter. Hydrogen chemisorption sites with low and intermedi...
PARTIAL MOLAR PROPERTIES OF MGCL2 IN MGCL2-KCL-CACL2 MELTS
ZHU, J; Karakaya, İshak; THOMPSON, WT (The Electrochemical Society, 1988-01-01)
To further the understanding of electrolytes of value in industrial magnesium electrolysis, the reversible emf for the formation of in fused salts containing and was studied. The data made possible the calculation of thermodynamic solution properties which were used with other data to construct features of the ternary phase diagram. The multiple discrete complex anion (MDCA) model was tested against the thermodynamic findings from the present study. Reasonable agreement was obtained between the experimen...
