A 3D physical model has been developed to investigate the Combustion Override Split-Production Horizontal well (COSH) process; The 3D model is a rectangular box with dimensions of 18 cm by 54 cm by 12 cm. The vertical well was used as an air injection well and the top horizontal well was used to collect the gases generated by the combustion process. A horizontal production well was placed near the base of the model to collect hot crude oil and water. A total of eight experiments, six of dry combustion and two of wet combustion were conducted to investigate the process parameters.

A computational model for partially plastic stress analysis of orthotropic variable thickness disks subjected to external pressure
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Yedekçi, Buşra (2014-04-01)
A computational model is developed to predict the states of stressand deformation in partially plastic, orthotropic, variable thickness, nonisothermal, stationary annular disks under external pressure. Assuming a state ofplane stress and using basic equations of mechanics of a disk, Maxwell relation,Hill’s quadratic yield condition, and a Swift type nonlinear hardening law, asingle governing differential equation describing the elastic and partially plasticresponse of an orthotropic, variable thickness, non...
An Experimental Study on Active Flow Control Using Synthetic Jet Actuators over S809 Airfoil
Gul, M; Uzol, Oğuz; Akmandor, I S (IOP Publishing, 2014-6-16)
This study investigates the effect of periodic excitation from individually controlled synthetic jet actuators on the dynamics of the flow within the separation and re-attachment regions of the boundary layer over the suction surface of a 2D model wing that has S809 airfoil profile. Experiments are performed in METUWIND's C3 open-loop suction type wind tunnel that has a 1 m x 1 m cross-section test section. The synthetic jet array on the wing consists of three individually controlled actuators driven by pie...
A numerical study on magneto-hydrodynamic mixed convection flow
Bozkaya, Canan (2014-01-01)
This paper, describes a study conducted to numerically investigate the two-dimensional, steady, laminar, magneto-hydrodynamic mixed convection flow and heat transfer characteristics in a lid-driven enclosure beneath an externally applied magnetic field. A solid square block is placed inside the cavity. The governing equations in the form of a stream function-vorticity-temperature formulation are solved numerically using the dual reciprocity boundary element method with constant elements. Treatment of nonlin...
A numerical study of solidification and viscous dissipation effects on polymer melt flow in plane channels
Tutar, Mustafa; Karakuş, Ali (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2013-04-01)
The combined effects of solidification and viscous dissipation on the hydrodynamic and thermal behavior of polymer melt flow during the injection process in a straight plane channel of constant cross section are numerically studied by considering the shear-rate and temperature-dependent viscosity and transient-phase change behavior. A numerical finite volume method, in conjunction with a modified form of the Cross constitutive equation to account for shear rate, temperature-dependent viscosity changes and a...
A phase-field model for fracture of unidirectional fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites
Denli, Funda Aksu; Gultekin, Osman; Holzapfel, Gerhard A.; Dal, Hüsnü (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-04-01)
This study presents a crack phase-field approach for anisotropic continua to model, in particular, fracture of fiber-reinforced matrix composites. Starting with the variational formulation of the multi-field problem of fracture in terms of the deformation and the crack phase fields, the governing equations feature the evolution of the anisotropic crack phase-field and the balance of linear momentum, presented for finite and small strains. A recently proposed energy-based anisotropic failure criterion is inc...
