The sulfonamide functional group has aroused interest in both medicinal and bioorganic chemistry. In this study, some new phenylselanyl-1-(toluene-4-sulfonyl)-1H-tetrazole derivatives (2a-f) have been synthesized using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide/dimethylaminopyridine (DCC/DMAP). The structures of the presently synthesized compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods [Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance-attached proton test ((13)C NMR-APT), and mass spectrometry (MS)]. In addition, the antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds and two antibiotics [sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and sulfamerazine (SRZ)] were investigated against some microorganisms.

The development of the novel synthesis for conduritols
Cantekin, Seda; Balcı, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2006)
Conduritols have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years owing to biological activities exhibited by them and also their usefulness in the synthesis of other natural products and pharmaceuticals. Conduritols show interesting inhibitor activity for some glycosidases and serve as important intermediates in the synthesis of inositols. In this study, novel synthetic strategies leading to highly functionalized cyclohexene derivative containing an aromatic ring, namely phenyl-substituted conduritol wa...
The design and synthesis of a photo-controlled, peptide-based potential drug carrier
Parlak Khalily, Melek; Özçubukçu, Salih (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2018-01-01)
Our focus in this study is on the design and synthesis of a light-responsive peptide-based nanocarrier in order to develop effective and biocompatible drug delivery systems. The synthesized nanocarrier is basically composed of peptide amphiphiles comprising a micelle forming a Pro-Pro-Pro-Lys-Lys-Lys peptide sequence with an attached anthracene fluorophore Anthracene containing an inner core of the micelle can serve as a storage site for poorly water-soluble drugs. Moreover, anthracenes that come in close p...
The synthesis of hydroxymethyl containing cyclitol derivatives
Kaya, Nihal; Balcı, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2009)
Cyclitols have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years because of diverse biological activities exhibited by them and also synthetic usefulness in the synthesis of other natural compounds or pharmaceuticals. The presence of hydroxymethyl groups in many cyclitols units building natural products is also attracting a remarkable attention. In this study, novel synthetic strategies leading to cyclitol derivatives including hydroxymethyl groups were investigated and the syntheses of bis-homoinositol d...
Development of novel asymmetric catalysts for various transformations and investigation of a rearrangement reaciıon
Yazıcıoğlu, Emre Yusuf; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2010)
A new class of pyridine and sulfur containing chiral compounds are synthesized. Camphor sulfonyl chloride is chosen as a valuable chiral starting compound. In our synthetic strategy, sulfonylchloride moiety is first reduced to corresponding thiol compound by using triphenylphosphine and then the resultant thiol will be converted to various alkyl, aryl substituted derivatives. The second part of our strategy includes the pyridine ring construction on the carbonyl side of camphor with the formation of β-hydro...
Development of new synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of unusual isocoumarin and indole derivatives:The chemistry of homophthalic acid
Özcan, Sevil; Balcı, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2007)
Many heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur show wide range of physiological activities and their synthesis has always been attracted the interest of chemists. The aim of this research is to develop new synthetic methodologies leading to the synthesis of new derivatives of isocoumarines, indoles, isoquinolines, benzodiazepinones and quinazolines, which have been found to show important biological activities. Starting from homophthalic acid and bishomophthalic acid the corresponding ac...
