ANALYTICAL SYNTHESIS OF MECHANISMS .1. TRANSMISSION ANGLE SYNTHESIS

1993-11-01
The transmission angle synthesis of single degree-of-freedom mechanisms is investigated. This synthesis problem can be defined as the determination of the dimensions of a mechanism such that the constraint DELTAmu < delta is satisfied. Here, DELTAmu denotes the maximum deviation of the transmission angle, mu, from the optimum one; and delta is a specified bound on DELTAmu. The developed algorithm yields, analytically, the algebraic conditions (inequalities) that must be satisfied by the dimensions of the mechanism. The method is applicable to any spatial or planar mechanism for which a transmission angle(s) may be defined.

ANALYTICAL SYNTHESIS OF MECHANISMS .2. CRANK-ROTATIBILITY SYNTHESIS
Soylu, Reşit (Elsevier BV, 1993-11-01)
The crank-rotatibility synthesis of single degree-of-freedom mechanisms is investigated. This synthesis problem may be defined to be the determination of the allowable dimensions of a mechanism such that a desired link can act as a crank. The developed synthesis algorithm yields, analytically, sufficient conditions for crank-rotatibility. These conditions are in the form of inequalities that involve the dimensions. The method is applicable to any planar or spatial mechanism, for which an appropriate input-o...
On the synthesis of a geared four-bar mechanism
PARLAKTAŞ, VOLKAN; Söylemez, Eres; TANIK, ENGİN (Elsevier BV, 2010-08-01)
This paper presents an analysis and synthesis method for a certain type of geared four-bar mechanism (GFBM) for which the input and output shafts are collinear. A novel analysis method is devised, expressions for the transmission angle are derived and charts are prepared for the design of such mechanisms. It is observed that the GFBM considered is inherently a quick-return mechanism. Large time ratios can be obtained with acceptable force transmission characteristics. During the working stroke, approximatel...
BOUNDARY-ELEMENT METHOD SOLUTION OF MHD FLOW IN A RECTANGULAR DUCT
Tezer, Münevver (Wiley, 1994-05-30)
The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting fluid in a rectangular duct with an external magnetic field applied transverse to the flow has been investigated. The walls parallel to the applied magnetic field are conducting while the other two walls which are perpendicular to the field are insulators. The boundary element method (BEM) with constant elements has been used to cast the problem into the form of an integral equation over the boundary and to obtain a sy...
MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC FLOW IN AN INFINITE CHANNEL
Tezer, Münevver (Wiley, 1986-09-01)
The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting fluid in an infinite channel, under an applied magnetic field has been investigated. The MHD flow between two parallel walls is of considerable practical importance because of the utility of induction flowmeters. The walls of the channel are taken perpendicular to the magnetic field and one of them is insulated, the other is partly insulated, partly conducting. An analytical solution has been developed for the velocity...
TRANSMISSION OPTIMIZATION OF RIGHT-ANGLED 4-BAR MECHANISMS
Söylemez, Eres (Elsevier BV, 1993-07-01)
Design of spatial four-bar mechanisms in which the skew crank axes are at right angles is investigated. Using an algebraic approach, the lengths of the moving links are expressed as functions of a single parameter. Transmission optimization of right-angled four-bar mechanisms can then be determined from the solution of a single parameter constrained optimization problem. When the motion is symmetric, mechanism proportions which yield constant force transmission characteristics can be obtained.
