The paper entitled "Evaluation of surface water quality and heavy metal pollution of Coruh River Basin (Turkey) by multivariate statistical methods'' by Bilgin and Konanc (Environ Earth Sci 75: 1029, 2016) was discussed. The authors made a great effort measuring 21 water quality indicators for the surface waters from 14 monitoring and sampling stations selected in the Coruh River Basin (northeastern Turkey) during a period from June 2014 to May 2015. Unfortunately, various mistakes, e.g., several misevaluated water quality indicators and a number of mistyped parts, as well as incomplete evaluation were identified with respect to the surface water quality in the Coruh River Basin, northeastern Turkey. Moreover, Bilgin and Konanc (Environ Earth Sci 75: 1029, 2016) considered the Turkish Water Pollution Control Regulation (TWPCR 2004), which was repealed as of 30.11.2012, and the Council Directive 75/440/EEC (1975), which was repealed as of 22.12.2007, to evaluate the surface water quality in the Coruh River Basin, northeastern Turkey. The mistakes were corrected, and the surface water quality was reevaluated with reference to the Turkish Regulation being in force.

Comparison of phosphorus reduction alternatives in control of nutrient concentrations in Lake Uluabat (Bursa, Turkey): Partial versus full sediment dredging
YENİLMEZ, Firdes; Aksoy, Ayşegül (2013-01-01)
In this study, Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program (WASP) was used to simulate the impacts of various phosphorus (P) load reduction scenarios on nutrient concentrations in Lake Uluabat, a Ramsar site (a wetland of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention), including sediment dredging options and source reduction. The model was calibrated for various water constituents including ortho-phosphate (PO43-) and nitrate (NO3-). The calibrated model was used as a management tool to pred...
Investigation of safe and sustainable yields for the Sandy Complex aquifer system in the Ergene River basin, Thrace Region, Turkey
OKTEN, S; Yazıcıgil, Hasan (2005-05-01)
This study aims to determine the safe and sustainable yields for the Sandy Complex aquifer system in Ergene River basin in northwestern Turkey. A numerical ground-water flow model was developed for the Sandy Complex aquifer, which is the most productive and the most widespread aquifer in the basin. The finite difference ground-water model was used to simulate steady and unsteady flow in the aquifer. The model was calibrated in two steps: a steady-state calibration, by using the observed ground-water levels ...
Assessment of Dewatering Requirements and their Anticipated Effects on Groundwater Resources: A Case Study from the Caldag Nickel Mine, Western Turkey
Peksezer-Sayit, Ayse; Cankara-Kadioglu, Cigdem; Yazıcıgil, Hasan (2015-06-01)
Dewatering requirements of three open pits located in western Turkey and the impact of dewatering on groundwater resources were evaluated using a three-dimensional numerical groundwater flow model. The groundwater was modeled using MODFLOW software and the dewatering was simulated using the MODFLOW Drain Package. The drain cell configurations were determined by pit boundaries; invert elevations of drains corresponded to the bench elevations in the mining schedule, which varied dynamically among the three pi...
ANALYZING THE COMBINED IMPACT OF CLIMATE AND LAND USE LAND COVER CHANGE ON THE HYDROLOGICAL RESPONSE OF JHELUM RIVER BASIN IN KASHMIR
Hamid, Injila; Akıntuğ, Bertuğ; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2022-7)
In terms of efficient and sustainable management of water resources of a basin, land use land cover (LULC) and climate change impact studies hold utmost importance. Land use change dynamics along with the climate change owing to greenhouse gas emissions are altering the hydrological response of river basins. This study therefore focuses on quantifying the combined impact of LULC and climate change on the water balance components of the Jhelum river basin using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrologi...
Application of the bentix index in assessing ecological quality of hard substrata: a case study from the Bosphorus Strait, Turkey
KALKAN, E.; KARHAN, S.U.; MUTLU, E.; SIMBOURA, N.; BEKOLET, M. (National Documentation Centre (EKT), 2007-6-1)
In this paper, a biotic index (Bentix) has been used for the assessment of ecological quality status of shallow water hard substrate benthic ecosystems affected by coastal sewage discharges in the Bosphorus Strait. A significant difference was observed between the control and the discharge stations with regard to Bentix values (Mann-Whitney U Test, p=0.002) and ecological quality status of the discharge stations was worse than that of controls. The index values revealed that sewage discharges caused ser...
