Merey, Sukru
With the consumption of conventional hydrocarbon reserves and advancement in drilling technology, recently there is a high interest in gas hydrates in the world. Due to lack of experience and sensitive nature of gas hydrates, drilling in gas hydrate reservoirs were considered as risky. However, recent drilling data in gas hydrates shows that successful drilling operations in gas hydrate reservoirs are possible with some special measurements such as specially designed drilling fluid and cement slurry etc. In this study, open-hole riserless drilling, drilling with riser in marine environment, logging while drilling, drilling fluid, cement and coring systems used in hydrate exploration are explained.

Shale Gas: Current Perspectives and Future Prospects in Turkey and the World
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2014-11-17)
With the increased natural gas prices and advancement in the horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing technology, there is a high interest in shale gas reservoirs in the world and in Turkey. However, gas production from shale gas reservoirs is quite different than conventional gas reservoirs because permeability in shale gas reservoirs is very low and production mechanism is different due to adsorbed gas and free gas together in these reservoirs. The aim of study is to clarify shale gas reservoirs in te...
Experimental analysis of adsorption capacities and behaviors of shale samples
Merey, Şükrü; Sınayuç, Çağlar; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2013)
In recent years, unconventional reserves such as shale gas reservoirs have become a major alternative source of energy in the world. It is known that Turkey has shale gas potentials especially in the Southeastern and Thrace region. In shale gas reservoirs, significant amounts of natural gas exist as conventional “free” gas in porous spaces as well as “adsorbed” gas on shale matrix. Understanding adsorption capacities and behaviors of shale gas reservoirs may help exploitation and resource evaluation. In thi...
Production peformance analysis of coal bed methane, shale gas, and tight gas reservoirs with different well trajectories and completion techniques

The large amount of produced oil and gas come from conventional resources all over the world and these resources are being depleted rapidly. This fact and the increasing oil and gas prices force the producing countries to find and search for new methods to recover more oil and gas. In order to meet the demand, the oil and gas industry has been turning towards to unconventional oil and gas reservoirs which become more popular every passing day. In recent years, they are seriously considered as supplementary ...
Critical evaluation of the energy resources of Turkey with respect to the world prospects
Aydemir, Mehmet Olcay; Mehmetoğlu, Mustafa Tanju; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2010)
Existing petroleum and natural gas reserves, which are the major supplies of primary energy demand of the world, are cumulated in a few countries. This causes a serious supply security problem for many countries. On the other side, greenhouse gas emissions caused by mainly fossil fuels are gradually increasing to a point which jeopardizes the future of the earth. By now, countries have to consider both their supply security and this global environmental problem while planning their energy future. For Turkey...
Torque and drag field applications in horizontal wells
EREN, TUNA; Caglayan, Burak Kagan; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2017-01-01)
The industry of drilling for oil, gas geothermal, and storage purposes necessitates construction of challenging wells in recent applications. Challenging wells are required to be designed prior to the drilling to selection of the equipment to be utilised while drilling. A poor engineering planning may result in losing time and effort to remediate torque and drag related troubles which might be encountered. Adequate planning is significantly important which is going to reveal possible drawbacks in planned we...
