Particles at high concentrations and unfavorable flow conditions may plug pores and perforations by bridging across during various well operations including particle-containing water injections and workover activities. This study presents an experimental determination of the conditions leading to plugging and the criteria for effective plugging conditions. The charts of the perforation or pore size to particle size ratio versus the particle Reynolds number are shown to determine the conditions leading to perforation and pore plugging. The experimental data obtained using three water-based drilling fluids, and several reported experimental data are analyzed and correlated by means of the power- and exponential-law expressions. Both approaches adequately describe the conditions leading to perforation and pore plugging.

Comparison of magnetic Barkhausen noise and ultrasonic velocity measurements for microstructure evaluation of SAE 1040 and SAE 4140 steels
Gür, Cemil Hakan; Çam, İbrahim (Elsevier BV, 2007-05-01)
The aim of this study is to compare the performance of magnetic Barkhausen noise and ultrasonic methods for the evaluation of the microstructure of commercial steels. Following the austenitization of the specimens made of SAE 1040 and SAE 4140, various heat treatments were carried out to obtain microstructures consisting of martensite, tempered martensite, fine pearlite-ferrite, and coarse pearlite-ferrite. The microstructures were initially characterized by SEM investigation and hardness measurements. The ...
Thin films of hard cubic Zr3N4 stabilized by stress
Chhowalla, M; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (Nature Materials, 2005-04-01)
Hard, refractory thin films consisting of group IVB element mono-nitrides deposited using various chemical and physical vapour-deposition techniques are widely used in wear-resistant applications. As the demand for performance exceeds the capabilities of existing materials, new materials with superior properties must be developed. Here we report the realization and characterization of hard cubic Zr3N4 (c-Zr3N4) thin films. The films, deposited using a novel but industrially viable modified filtered cathodic...
EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS AND TRANSIENT SIMULATION OF HEAT TRANSFER INSIDE THE FINNED TUBE ADSORBENT BED OF A THERMAL WAVE CYCLE
ÇAĞLAR, AHMET; Yamali, Cemil (Begell House, 2019-01-01)
Heat transfer enhancement inside the adsorbent bed of a thermal wave adsorption cooling cycle is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Various adsorbent materials are tested using a finned tube adsorbent bed for the thermal wave cycle. The mathematical model is well defined, including a 2-D coupled heat and mass transfer analysis. This study presents the effects of heat transfer fluid velocity, regeneration temperature, condenser pressure, and particle diameter on the heat transfer enhancement...
Simulation of hysteresis in soil-water retention with a correlation between the invading pressure to the governing effective flow area
Sattari, Amir Shoarian; Siebelist, Marlena; Toker, Nabi Kartal; Wuttke, Frank (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-03-23)
In order to determine the soil-water retention (SWR) behavior of a particulate medium, the invading phase pressure in the inter-particle level is correlated to the governing effective pore area in the wetting and drying paths. In a three-phase medium that consists of air, wetting fluid and solids, the invading phase on the drying path is air, whereas on the wetting path the wetting fluid advances into the cavities. On a drying path where the area of a cavity is minimum, the air-entry pressure (AEP) of a por...
Characterization of T1InS1.8Se0.2 as advanced functional crystals
Qasrawi, A. F.; Atatreh, Areen A. M.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Elsevier BV, 2018-11-15)
In this work, selenium doped TlInS1.8Se0.2 crystals are used to fabricate multifunctional devices that can handle more than one duty at a time. After revealing the morphological, compositional, structural and optical properties of the doped crystal, it is sandwiched between Ag and carbon metals. The crystals are characterized by means of ultraviolet-visible light spectrophotometry, impedance spectroscopy and illumination dependent current-voltage characteristics techniques. While the optical spectroscopy al...
