Cold plasma treatment of polyester fabric in the presence of several volatile monomers containing expected flame retardant elements was made and some of the flammability characteristics of the plasma/monomer-treated fabric were studied. The plasma treatment on the fabric caused a slight decrease in both oxygen index values and burning rates. It is believed that crosslinking outweights the effect of grafted elements. The results of wettability and TGA tests as well as SEM data are included.

Studies on the effect of electrode type and substrate temperature on plasma polymerization of two model compounds: Acrylonitrile and hexamethyldisiloxane
Akovalı, Güneri; Dilsiz, Nursel (Wiley, 1990-4)
Polymers were prepared from saturated (HMDS) and unsaturated (AN) monomers in a radio frequency discharge (plasma). The effect of selected parameters such as electrode type (such as Cu, Zn, Ni, Al), reactor type, and substrate temperature (other parameters constant) on chemical structure and the rate of polymer deposition was examined by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Differences in the nature of electrodes and reactor types were found to yield similar plasma products with similar rates of ...
Synthesis and characterization of epoxy based nanocomposites
Basara, G; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2005-11-01)
Epoxy-clay nanocomposites were synthesized to examine the effects of the content and type of different clays on the structure and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (epoxy) was reinforced by 0.5-11 wt % natural (Cloisite Na+) and organically modified (Cloisite 3013) types of montmorillonite. SEM results showed that as the clay content increased, larger agglomerates of clay were present. Nano-composites with Cloisite 30B exhibited better dispersion and a lower degree...
Preparation and Characterization of Low Density Polyethylene/Ethylene Methyl Acrylate Glycidyl Methacrylate/Organoclay Nanocomposites
Coskunses, Fatma Isik; Yılmazer, Ülkü (Wiley, 2011-06-05)
The effects of organoclay type, compatibilizer, and the addition order of components during melt-blending process on the morphology and thermal, mechanical, and flow properties of ternary nanocomposites based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) were investigated. As a compatibilizer, ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate (E-MA-GMA), as organoclays Cloisites (R) 15A, 25A, and 30B were used. All samples were prepared by a corotating twin screw extruder, followed by injection molding. The highest incre...
Effect of surface treatment on electrical conductivity of carbon black filled conductive polymer composites
Koysuren, Ozcan; Yesil, Sertan; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2007-06-05)
Two different types of surface modifiers, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and formamide, were applied to carbon black (CB) particles to lower electrical resistivity of polymer composites prepared by treated CB. Two different matrices, low-density polyethylene and nylon 6, were chosen to compound with surface modified CB. Surface energy of CB was increased by adding amine or amide functional groups during surface treatment of CB. According to electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), chemical modifica...
INVESTIGATION OF CONDUCTIVITY CHARACTERISTICS OF Zn-In-Se THIN FILMS
Gullu, H. H.; Parlak, Mehmet (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2020-01-01)
Zn-In-Se thin films were fabricated on the ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates masked with clover-shaped geometry by thermal evaporation of its elemental sources. Temperature-dependent conductivity characteristics of the films were investigated under dark and illuminated conditions. The semiconductor type of the films was found as n-type by thermal probe test. According to the van der Pauw technique, the dark electrical conductivity analyses showed that the variations of conductivity of unannealed and a...
