This paper presents the effects of data correction procedures for near field earthquakes in terms of damage potential calculations. For this purpose the horizontal components of the 13 March 1992 Erzincan earthquake are re-corrected by two different data correction schemes. Among the data processing techniques chosen, the first method applies low- and high-pass filtering while the second one uses segmented polynomials for correcting the raw data. The drift spectrum is used as the index for damage potential calculations because this captures local drift demand of a structure. The results indicate that the chosen correction methods can result in major differences in calculated displacement records. However, they seem not to affect the damage potential for near field earthquakes because the dominant contribution derives from velocity components of ground motions.
