The solution properties of poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) were studied with light scattering (LS), gel permeation chromatography/light; scattering (GPC/LS), and viscometry methods. PDMS samples were fractionated, and the weight-average molecular weights, second virial coefficient, and the z-average radius of gyration of each fraction were found according to the Zimm method with the LS technique. In this work, the molecular weight range studied was 7.5 x 10(4) to 8.0 x 10(5). Molecular weights and molecular weight distributions were determined by GPC/LS. The intrinsic viscosities of these fractions were studied in toluene at 30 degrees C, in methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) at 20 degrees C, and in bromocyclohexane (BCH) at 26 degrees C and 28 degrees C. The Mark-Houwink-Sakurada relationship showed that toluene was a good solvent, and MEK at 20 degrees C and BCH at 28 degrees C were theta solvents for PDMS. The unperturbed dimensions were calculated with LS and intrinsic viscosity data. The unperturbed dimensions, expressed in terms of the characteristic ratio, were found to be 6.66 with different extrapolation methods in toluene at 30 degrees C. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Solution properties of polyaniline
Yilmaz, Faris; Kucukyavuz, Zuhal (Wiley, 2010-04-01)
Solution properties of polyaniline (PANI) synthesized at various temperatures were studied using static light scattering (SLS), intrinsic viscosity, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). We demonstrated that average radius of gyration (R-g), intrinsic viscosity [eta], and average hydrodynamic radius (R-H), of polyaniline molecules in dilute N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) solutions increased with decreasing synthesis temperatures, i.e.; increasing molecular weight. SLS data demonstrate that second virial coeff...

Atak, Samed; Icli-Ozkut, Merve; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; CİHANER, ATİLLA (Wiley, 2011-10-15)
Optical and electrochemical properties of regiosymmetric and soluble alkylenedioxyselenophene-based electrochromic polymers, namely poly(3,3-dibutyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-seleno pheno [3,4-b][1,4]dioxephine) (PProDOS-C(4)), poly(3,3-dihexyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-selenopheno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxephine) (PProDOS-C(6)), and poly(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-selenopheno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxephine) (PProDOS-C(10)), are highlighted. It is noted that these unique polymers have low bandgaps (1.57-1.65 eV), and they are exceptionally stable ...
Complex-radical cyclocopolymerization of allyl a-(N-maleimido)acetate with styrene and maleic anhydride
Rzaev, ZMO; Salamova, UU; Altindal, S (Wiley, 1997-08-01)
Radical copolymerizations of allyl alpha-(N-maleimido)acetate (AMI) with styrene (D, electron-donor) or maleic anhydride (A, electron-acceptor) were carried out in benzene and/or methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) at 50-70 degrees C in the presence of 2,2'-azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. The structure and properties of copolymers synthesized were derived from IR, chemical, DTA and TGA analyses. Side-chain unsaturation of macromolecules was also proved by the crosslinking effect observed. Kinetic parameters ...
Compatibilization of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) and poly(2,6-dichloro-1,4-phenylene oxide) with sulfonated polystyrene and its Na and Zn-neutralized ionomers
Mih, M; Aras, L; Alkan, C (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2003-05-01)
Compatibility of acidic (H), Na, and Zn neutralized sulfonated polystyrene ionomer blends with Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) and Poly(2,6-dichloro-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PDCIPO) was investigated by Dilute Solution Viscometry (DSV) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The intrinsic viscosities of the blends, are measured in suitable solvents. The degree of compatibility of the blends is characterized by Ab parameter. According to the results, PPO is completely miscible, except for Na-ne...
Synthesis, characterization and electrochromic properties of copolymer of 3-{[4-(thien-3-yl-methoxy)phenoxy]methyl} thiophene with thiophene
Erden, Ayca; Sahin, Elif; Gullu, Mustafa; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-08-01)
(3- {[4-(Thien-3-yl-methoxy)phenoxy]methyl} thiophene) (TMPMT) was synthesized via the reaction of 3-bromomethyl-thiophene with hydroquinone and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Electrochemical copolymerization of TMPMT with thiophene in acetonitrile/boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (AN/BFEE) solvent mixture was achieved using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) as the supporting electrolyte. Resulting copolymer was characterize...
