The effects of positive and negative bias stresses on plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposited (PECVD) hydrogenated amorphous silicon nitride/crystal silicon (a-SiNx/c-Si) structures were investigated as a function of both time and temperature. It was shown that the bias stress induces forward (positive) or backward (negative) shift of the capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristic along the voltage axis according to the polarity of this applied stress voltage. The injection of charge carriers from the semiconductor substrate and their eventual dispersive hopping process, limiting the redistribution of charges throughout the insulator, seem consistent with the time evolution of both do current and flat band voltage of the metal insulator semiconductor structure.

Structural properties of a-Si films and their effect on aluminum induced crystallization
Tankut, Aydin; Karaman, Mehmet; Ozkol, Engin; Canlı, Sedat; Turan, Raşit (2015-10-01)
In this paper, we report the influence of the structural properties of amorphous silicon (a-Si) on its subsequent crystallization behavior via the aluminum induced crystallization (AIC) method. Two distinct a-Si deposition techniques, electron beam evaporation and plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), are compared for their effect on the overall AIC kinetics as well as the properties of the final poly-crystalline (poly-Si) silicon film. Raman and FTIR spectroscopy results indicate that the PECV...
Polysilicon thin film processing on glass and photovoltaic applications
Karaman, Mehmet; Turan, Raşit; Tüzün Özmen, Özge; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2016)
In this PhD study, crystallization of amorphous silicon on glass and its photovoltaic applications have been investigated. The crystallization of amorphous silicon (a-Si) was studied in two parts; Metal Induced Crystallization (MIC) and Laser Induced Crystallization (LIC). MIC method was first implemented by gold nanoparticle (AuNP) fabricated by dewetting technique by which gold thin films deposited on aluminium doped zinc oxide (AZO) coated glass were annealed for nanoparticle formation. A-Si was then depo...
Energy transfer and 1.54 mu m emission in amorphous silicon nitride films
Yerci, Selçuk; Kucheyev, S. O.; VAN BUUREN, TONY; Basu, S. N.; Dal Negro, L. (2009-07-20)
Er-doped amorphous silicon nitride films with various Si concentrations (Er:SiNx) were fabricated by reactive magnetron cosputtering followed by thermal annealing. The effects of Si concentrations and annealing temperatures were investigated in relation to Er emission and excitation processes. Efficient excitation of Er ions was demonstrated within a broad energy spectrum and attributed to disorder-induced localized transitions in amorphous Er:SiNx. A systematic optimization of the 1.54 mu m emission was pe...
Nonlinear optical properties of low temperature annealed silicon-rich oxide and silicon-rich nitride materials for silicon photonics
Minissale, S.; Yerci, Selçuk; Dal Negro, L. (2012-01-09)
We investigate the nonlinear optical properties of Si-rich silicon oxide (SRO) and Si-rich silicon nitride (SRN) samples as a function of silicon content, annealing temperature, and excitation wavelength. Using the Z-scan technique, we measure the non-linear refractive index n(2) and the nonlinear absorption coefficient beta for a large number of samples fabricated by reactive co-sputtering. Moreover, we characterize the nonlinear optical parameters of SRN in the broad spectral region 1100-1500 nm and show ...
Silicon nanocrystals embedded in sio2 for light emitting diode (led) applications
Kulakçı, Mustafa; Turan, Raşit; Department of Physics (2005)
In this study, silicon nanocrystals (NC) were synthesized in silicon dioxide matrix by ion implantation followed by high temperature annealing. Annealing temperature and duration were varied to study their effect on the nanocrystal formation and optical properties. Implantation of silicon ions was performed with different energy and dose depending on the oxide thickness on the silicon substrate. Before device fabrication, photoluminescence (PL) measurement was performed for each sample. From PL measurement ...
