In this paper, a new formulation is presented for the analysis of circular plates supported on elastic foundations. The formulation is based on the flexibility and stiffness methods of structural analysis. Classical thin plate theory for small deformations is applied to obtain the flexibility and stiffness coefficients. The circular plate is represented as a series of simply supported annular plates resting on support springs along their common edges. The computer implementation of the method is given, and solutions obtained for an illustrative case are discussed. (C) 2000 Civil-Comp Ltd. and Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Thickness analysis of thin films by energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy
Canlı, Sedat; Turan, Raşit; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2010)
EDS is a tool for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the materials. In electron microscopy, the energy of the electrons determines the depth of the region where the X-rays come from. By varying the energy of the electrons, the depth of the region where the X-rays come from can be changed. If a thin film is used as a specimen, different quantitative ratios of the elements for different electron energies can be obtained. Unique thickness of a specific film on a specific substrate gives unique energy-rat...
Hybrid finite element for analysis of functionally graded beams
Sarıtaş, Afşin; Soydas, Ozan (2017-01-01)
A hybrid finite element model is presented, where stiffness and mass distributions over a beam with functionally graded material (FGM) are accurately modeled for both elastic and inelastic material responses. Von Mises and Drucker-Prager plasticity models are implemented for metallic and ceramic parts of FGM, respectively. Three-dimensional stress-strain relations are solved by a general closest point projection algorithm, and then condensed to the dimensions of the beam element. Numerical examples and veri...
Free flexural( or bending) vibrations analysis of doubly stiffened, composite, orthotropic base plates and panels (in aero-structural systems)
Çil, Kürşad; Yüceoğlu, Umur; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2003)
In this Thesis, the problem of the أFree Vibrations Analysis of Doubly Stiffened Composite, Orthotropic and/or Isotropic, Base Plates or Panels (with Orthotropic Stiffening Plate Strips)ؤ is investigated. The composite plate or panel system is made of an أOrthotropic and/or Isotropic Base Plateؤ stiffened or reinforced by adhesively bonded أUpper and Lower Orthotropic Stiffening Plate Stripsؤ. The plates are assumed to be the أMindlin Platesؤ connected by relatively very thin adhesive layers. The general pr...
Optical characterization of silicon based hydrogenated amorphous thin films by un-visible and infrared measurements
Kılıç, İlker; Katırcıoğlu, Bayram; Department of Physics (2006)
Various carbon content hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-Si1ŁxCx:H) and hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin films have been deposited on various substrates by using plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) technique. Transmission spectra of these films have been determined within UV-Visible region and the obtained data were analysed to find related physical constants such as; refractive indices, thicknesses, etc. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry technique has been u...
