A general synthetic strategy is developed to synthesize water soluble receptors by employing tripodal system based on a cyclotriphosphaze platform. The developed model is successfully synthesized and characterized by using elemental analysis, FT-IR, MALDI-TOF, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and P-31 NMR techniques. The fluorescence sensing performance of prepared water soluble tripodal systems were evaluated by UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. According to obtained results, two novel water-soluble sensing platforms were selective and sensitive fluorescence receptors for detections of Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions in both the absence and presence of competitive ions. In addition, the iron receptor also displays biological function, therefore, the cytotoxicity and fluorescence microscopy experiments were applied and it was demonstrated that compound 3 was non-cytotoxic, and can be used as fluorescence imaging sensors for Fe3+ in living cells. According to obtained results, proposed synthetic strategy could be applied to develop water soluble receptors for not only iron and/or copper ions but also many different metal ions of interest using a variety of fluoroionophores.

Synthesis of alpha-Fe2O3/TiO2 heterogeneous composites by the sol-gel process and their photocatalytic activity
Bouziani, Asmae; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
alpha-Fe2O3/TiO2 heterogeneous composites were synthesized by the sol-gel process to increase the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The structural, morphological, and optical characteristics of the composites were determined by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Results revealed that the incorporation of alpha-Fe2O3 to TiO2 widened the visible light absorption ability of TiO2. It was realized that the calcination temperature plays a crucial role in m...
Utilization of pretreated molasses for serine alkaline protease production with recombinant Bacillus species
Calik, G; Pehlivan, N; Kalender, N; Ozdamar, TH; Çalık, Pınar (Informa UK Limited, 2003-05-01)
Recombinant Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis , and Bacillus licheniformis were used for the production of serine alkaline protease (SAP) utilizing chemically and/or physically pretreated molasses. The highest enzyme activity was obtained with r- Bacillus subtilis , with the complex medium involving physically treated molasses having 20 kg m(-3) initial sucrose concentration in small-scale, agitation- and heating rate-controlled bioreactors at t=63 h. Effects of oxygen transfer ...
A Practical Guide to the Preparation of Liquid Crystal-Templated Microparticles
Wang, Xiaoguang; Büküşoğlu, Emre; Abbottt, Nicholas L. (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2017-01-10)
We provide a practical guide to methods and protocols that use polymer networks templated from droplets of liquid crystal (LC) to synthesize micrometer-sized polymeric particles that are chemically patchy, are anisometric in shape, possess anisotropic optical properties, and/or are mesoporous. We describe a range of methods that permit the preparation of LC droplets (containing reactive monomers) as templates for polymerization, including formation of LC-in-water emulsions by mechanical methods (e.g., vorte...
Applicability of the power model to mixed slurries with non-spherical particles and networking effect
Kutukcu, Basak; Ayrancı Tansık, İnci (Elsevier BV, 2018-10-01)
Industrial applications of solids suspension generally consist of mixed slurries that contain many solid phases with irregularly shaped particles at high concentrations. Since solid-liquid mixing is a power intensive operation it is critical to predict the just suspended speed, N-j(s), accurately. There is only one model available for mixed slurry N-js predictions: the power model. This model was developed for spherical particles. In this study, suspension behaviour of mixed slurries with non-spherical part...
Development and application of novel bio-magnetic membrane capsules for the removal of the cationic dye malachite green in wastewater treatment

Novel bio-magnetic membrane capsules (BMMCs) were prepared by a simple two-step titration-gel cross-linking method using a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium alginate (SA) matrix to control the disintegration of phytogenic magnetic nanoparticles (PMNPs) in an aqueous environment, and their performance was investigated for adsorbing cationic malachite green (MG) dye from water. The prepared BMMCs were characterized by FTIR, powder XRD, SEM, EDX, XPS, VSM and TGA techniques. The findings revealed that the hys...
