Introducing functional synthetic biomaterials to the literature became quite essential in biomedical technologies. For the growth of novel biomedical engineering approaches, progressive functional properties as well as the robustness of the manufacturing processes are essential. By using acid-induced epoxide ring-opening polymerizations through catalysts, a wide variety of biodegradable and functionalized biomaterials can be synthesized. Sebacic acid (SA) and poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether (PEGDGE) are amongst the FDA-approved biocompatible materials. In this study, we focused on the rapid synthesis of caffeine-catalyzed self-healable elastomer via a facile microwave-assisted synthesis route. The elastomer prepared can be used in various applications, including tactile sensors, wearable electronics, and soft robotics. SA and PEGDGE were catalyzed in the presence of caffeine under microwave irradiation followed by crosslinkingin vacuo, yielding an elastomeric material. The chemical characterizations of the obtained elastomer were carried out. The resulting material is transparent, highly stretchable, and has capacitive and self-healing properties even at room temperature. The material developed can be easily applied for the aforementioned applications.

BIOENGINEERING FUNCTIONAL COPOLYMERS. XV. SYNTHESIS OF ORGANOBORON AMIDE-ESTER BRANCHED DERIVATIVES OF OLIGO(MALEIC ANHYDRIDE) AND THEIR INTERACTION WITH HeLa AND L929 FIBROBLAST CELLS
Kahraman, Gulten; TÜRK, MUSTAFA; Rzayev, Zakir M. O.; Unsal, M. Elif; Soylemez, Ernur (2011-01-01)
Novel bioengineering functional organoboron oligomers were synthesized by (i) amidolysis of oligo(maleic anhydride) (OMA) with 2-aminoethyldiphenylborinate (2-AEPB), (ii) esterification of organoboron oligomer (OMA-B) with alpha-hydroxy-omega-methoxypoly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as a compatibilizer and (iii) conjugation of organoboron PEO branches (OMA-B-PEO) with folic acid as a taggering agent. Structure and composition of the synthesized oligomers were characterized by FTIR-ART and (1)H ((13)C) NMR spectros...
Quantum Transport Mode in Graphene Nanoribbon Based Transistor
Hedayat, Sayed Norollah; Ahmadi, Mohammad Taghi; Sedghi, Hassan; Goudarzi, Hadi; Moradi, Shahram (American Scientific Publishers, 2017-09-01)
Graphene has incredible carrier transport property with high application opportunity at single molecule level, which composes it as promising materials on nano electronic application. In order to develop the new device such as graphene nanoribbon transistor, Carbon Nanotube Field Effect Transistor (CNTFET) and nanowire based devices, it is essential to investigate the quantum limit in low dimensional systems. In this paper transmission coefficient of the schottky structure in the graphene based transistor i...
Design of intelligent nanoparticles for use in controlled release
Bayyurt, Banu; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Biotechnology (2009)
The aim of this project was to design an intelligent controlled release system based on thermoresponsive nanoparticles for cancer therapy and to evaluate the efficiencies of these systems with in vitro cell culture. Poly(Nisopropylacrylamide), an important thermoresponsive polymer, was selected for this study to prepare the responsive nanoparticles. This polymer has an lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of 32 oC, below which it is hydrophilic and above this temperature, it shows hydrophobic behavior...
Nanoclay and carbon nanotubes as potential synergists of an organophosphorus flame-retardant in poly(methyl methacrylate)
Isitman, Nihat Ali; Kaynak, Cevdet (2010-09-01)
This study explores whether nanoparticles incorporated in polymers always act as synergists of conventional flame-retardant additives. For this purpose, two different filler nanoparticles, namely organically modified layered-silicate clay minerals or nanoclays and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, were incorporated in poly(methyl methacrylate) filled with an organophosphorus flame-retardant that acts through intumescence. Effective dispersion techniques specific to each nanoparticle were utilized and prepared ...
Thermal degradation of organophosphorus flame-retardant poly(methyl methacrylate) nanocomposites containing nanoclay and carbon nanotubes
ORHAN, Tugba; Isitman, Nihat Ali; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Kaynak, Cevdet (2012-03-01)
Filler nanoparticles pave the way for the development of novel halogen-free flame-retardant polymers. The aim of this study was to investigate the thermal degradability, and in particular, the thermal degradation mechanism of organophosphorus flame-retardant poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposites containing nanoclay (NC) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT). For this purpose, thermogravimetry and direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry analysis were utilized. The onset of degradation was delayed thro...
