We propose a design of a metamaterial based sensor to be used in various applications including micro-fluid, strain and rotation sensing. The structure has a simple geometry composed of a single circular split ring resonator (CSRR) and it is possible to adjust the resonance frequency in the region of desired band. The resonance frequency is carefully selected so that the materials to be sensed have linear dielectric curves at that particular frequency range which iscrucial to design accurate sensing characteristic. Three importantapplications are investigated, namely density, rotation and tension sensing. First one is a fluid sensor in which the structure successfully distinguishes the density of ethyl alcohol ratio in pure water andethyl alcohol mixture. Secondly, strain sensing is carried out by observing the resonance frequency shift depending on the iron rod thickness which is placed in the center of the hole in the middle of the structure. The last application is determination of the rotation angle in a precise manner. Depending on a metal placed in the resonator with different theta angles (-90 <= theta <= 90), the structure responses in different resonance frequencies. The structure demonstrates sensitive and very precise results in terms of the rotation angle. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.

In this study, Chiral Metamaterial Sensor (CMS), which is designed by utilizing a Split Ring Resonators (SRR) has been employed to reveal the two different types of sensor applications by experimentally and numerically. These applications include purity demonstration of methanol, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and fuel adulteration applications for petrol. All of the validations have been realized by measuring the complex permittivity values and reflection coefficients by using a vector network analyze...

A new approach was developed using a combination of a conducting polymer; poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) with the electrochemically produced polymer of N-ferrocenyl-3-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl) aniline, (PFcPyBz) layer for the enzyme scaffolding resulting in excellent analytical parameters. To organize such a surface, graphite electrode was coated with a PEDOT layer and it was used as a transducer for electrochemical deposition of the polymer of a newly synthesized FcPyBz monomer. Using a PEDOT layer as the...

In this work a novel approach was reported for glucose detection using disposable paper based electrodes consisting graphene modified with a conducting polymer, glucose oxidase (GOx) and gold nanoparticles. For the first time, a conducting polymer; poly(9,9-di-(2-ethylhexyl)-fluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-end capped with 2,5-diphenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (PFLO) was spread over graphene coated papers and used as a matrix for glucose detection. To finalize the desired biosensor, the enzyme GOx was immobilized with gold nano...
Metamaterial Absorber Based Multifunctional Sensors
Sabah, Cumali (The Electrochemical Society, 2016-01-01)
In this paper, several important applications of a metamaterial absorber (MA) based sensors such as temperature, pressure, moisture, and density are presented. Since the sensing ability mostly considers the resonance frequency, the frequency range where the resonance shifts occur linearly or non-linearly depending on the temperature, pressure, moisture, and density changes is selected carefully. The model is composed of X shaped resonators (XSR), dielectric substrate, the sensing layer, dielectric substrate...

Color-changing energy storage devices that can easily communicate with the user carry the potential to be integrated into smart electronics. In this work, nanocomposite electrochromic supercapacitor electrodes were fabricated with silver nanowire (Ag NW) network electrodes and a green to transmissive electrochromic polymer, PDOPEQ. High transparency and conductivity of Ag NW network current collectors allowed the fabrication of electrochromic supercapacitors and investigation of the spectroelectrochemical a...
