Electrochemical Synthesis of Poly(methylsilyne) and Investigation of the Effects of Parameters on the Synthesis
EROĞLU PALA, DAMLA; Nur, Yusuf; Bayram, Göknur; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2010-12-05)
This study aims to synthesize poly(methylsilyne) by electrochemical reduction of methyltrichlorosilane at a constant potential of -6 V, while investigating the effects of parameters such as the nature of the electrode, solvent and supporting electrolyte, the monomer/solvent ratio, and the reaction time on the properties of the products. The polymer was characterized by H-1-NMR (Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), UV-Visible Spectroscopy, and TGA (...
Electrochemical synthesis of poly(methylsilyne), and the effect of silicon-based preceramic polymers on the properties of polypropylene based composites
Eroğlu, Damla; Bayram, Göknur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2008)
In the first part of this dissertation, poly(methylsilyne) was produced both in small and large-scales. In the small-scale, the aim was to synthesize the polymer by electrochemical polymerization of methyltrichlorosilane at a constant potential of -6 V supplied by batteries, using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the supporting electrolyte. The polymer was characterized by 1H-NMR, FTIR, UV-Visible Spectroscopy and GPC in addition to its distinctive yellow color. The yellow color and the 1H-NMR, FTIR, UV-Visi...
Electrochemical polymerization of furan and 2-methylfuran
Demirboga, B; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (1999-02-26)
Conductive polyfuran and poly(2-methyl)furan are prepared by controlled potential electrolysis in acetonitrile at room temperature. It is found that conductivity of polyfuran decreased by factor of 4 when methyl group is present in the a position. Temperature effect on the rate of polymerization of furan is studied by cyclic voltammetry technique and an increase in the initial rate of polymerization was observed with increasing temperature. Apparent activation energy of electrochemical polymerization of fur...
