Peptide-based drug systems /
Parlak, Melek; Özçubukçu, Salih; Department of Chemistry (2017)
The increasing appeal of safe, cheap and effective treatments against various type of diseases has paved the way for the discovery and development of innovative peptide-based drug and drug delivery systems. The relative ease with which peptide based-materials can be synthesized and the wide range of synthetic techniques available have ensured that these materials can be tuned to adopt specific conformation or modified to contain specific functional groups. Our major focus in this thesis is developing peptid...
Influence of micropatterns on human mesenchymal stem cell fate /
Hastürk, Onur; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Department of Biotechnology (2016)
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are promising cell sources for tissue engineering applications as they can differentiate into a variety of adult cells types including osteoblasts. In vivo microenvironment of stem cells is known to provide both biochemical signals and micro- and nanoscale physical cues that influence the behavior and fate of stem cells. The use of soluble chemical factors is the most common strategy to guide the commitment of MSCs to specific lineages, but it is a cause of concern such as unsa...
Investigation of in vitro cytotoxic effects of heparin coated iron oxide nanoparticles combined with tpp-dca on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HEPG2
Saraç, Başak Ezgi; Güray, Nülüfer Tülün; Volkan, Mürvet; Department of Biology (2018)
Nanotechnology in medicine involves the applications of nanoparticles and one of the rising field is cancer nanotechnology, which has been increasingly used in cancer diagnostics, imaging, and therapeutic drug delivery. The advantage of the use of the nanoparticles is that, they can be designed to be specific for tumor tissue. This allows increased drug delivery efficiency and reduced off-target toxicities. Iron oxide nanoparticles used in this study are smaller than 100 nm but still it gives an enhanced su...
An Extensible security infrastructure for the secondary use of electronic health records in clinical research
Eryılmaz, Elif; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2013)
In order to facilitate clinical research studies re-using Electronic Health Records (EHR) has a great potential. Besides interoperability, safeguarding the security and privacy of the medical data in the context of secondary use for clinical research is one of the most important challenges in this respect. In order to ensure that the clinical information is shared among EHR systems and clinical research systems in an ethical and safe way, there needs to be standards-based and adaptable security and privacy ...
Bioactive agents carrying quantum dot labeled liposomes
Büyüksungur, Arda; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Padeste, Celestino; Department of Biotechnology (2013)
Among the many possible applications of nanotechnology in medicine, the use of various nanomaterials as delivery systems for pharmacologically active agents, drugs and nucleic acids (DNA, siRNA), and imaging agents is gaining increased attention. Liposomes are particularly important for these drug delivery systems because of their advantages such as their ability to carry hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs, their being of biological origin and short life spans. Quantum Dots (QDs) are nano-scale, semiconducti...
