Cepstral deconvolution method for measurement of absorption and scattering coefficients of materials
Aslan, Gökhan; Çalışkan, Mehmet; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2006)
Several methods are developed to measure absorption and scattering coefficients of materials. In this study, a new method based on cepstral deconvolution technique is proposed. A reverberation room method standardized recently by ISO (ISO 17497-1) is taken as the reference for measurements. Several measurements were conducted in a physically scaled reverberation room and results are evaluated according to these two methods, namely, the method given in the standard and cepstral deconvolution method. Two meth...
Elastic analysis of orthotropic cylinders under different boundary conditions
Farukoğlu, Ömer Can; Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Department of Engineering Sciences (2016)
Analytical solutions are derived to examine the elastic responses of fixed end cylinders made of orthotropic materials. Cylinders are investigated under different boundary conditions which are internal pressure, external pressure, combined pressure and annular rotation respectively. Making use of Maxwell relations, orthotropic cylinders are transformed to isotropic ones. In order to exhibit numerical examples different orthotropic materials are used and compared. It is observed that orthotrophy slightly inf...
Implementation and comparison of turbulence models on a flat plate problem using a Navier-Stokes solver
Genç, Balkan Ziya; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2003)
For turbulent flow calculations, some of the well-known turbulence models in the literature are applied on a previously developed Navier-Stokes solver designed to handle laminar flows. A finite volume formulation, which is cell-based for inviscid terms and cell-vertex for viscous terms, is used for numerical discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations in conservative form. This formulation is combined with one-step, explicit time marching Lax-Wendroff numerical scheme that is second order accurate in spac...
Synthesis and characterization of bulk amorphous/nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials
Karataş, Mediha Merve; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Mekhrabov, Amdulla O.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2016)
The aim of the study is to reach non-equilibrium cooling conditions and produce bulk glassy (Fe36Co36B19.2Si4.8Nb4)99.25Cu0.75 rod which has a good soft magnetic property and high electrical resistivity and to investigate its crystallization kinetics. The bulk metallic glass formation was achieved by arc melting and suction casting and it was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermal analysis techniques. After characterizations, by isochronal and isothermal differe...
Nanocomposites based on blends of polyethylene
Işık, Fatma; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
In this study the effects of compatibilizer type, organoclay type, and the addition order of components on the morphological, thermal, mechanical and flow properties of ternary nanocomposites based on low density polyethylene, LDPE were investigated. As compatibilizer, ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate, ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate, and ethylene/butyl acrylate/maleic anhydride; as organoclay Cloisite? 15A, Cloisite? 25A and Cloisite? 30B were used. All samples were prepared by a co-rotating t...
