A WAFER LEVEL VACUUM PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY FOR MEMS BASED LONG-WAVE INFRARED SENSORS
Demirhan Aydın, Gülşah; Akın, Tayfun; Kalay, Yunus Eren; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2022-8-11)
This thesis proposes a new approach to obtain a wafer level vacuum packaging that satisfies the requirements of the thermal sensors at low cost and with high performance. The moth-eye structures are formed on both side of a polished flat silicon wafer without any cavity to allow the transmission of the infrared radiation in long wave infrared region (LWIR). Then, this wafer is bonded to another spacer wafer using Au-In Trans-liquid phase (TLP) approach that allows bonding at low temperature (around 200℃); t...
Conduction based compact thermal modeling for thermal analysis of electronic components
Ocak, Mustafa; Sert, Cüneyt; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
Conduction based compact thermal modeling of DC/DC converters, which are electronic components commonly used in military applications, are investigated. Three carefully designed numerical case studies are carried out at component, board and system levels using ICEPAK software. Experiments are conducted to gather temperature data that can be used to study compact thermal models (CTMs) with different levels of simplification. In the first (component level) problem a series of conduction based CTMs are generat...
Optimization of a heat sink with heterogeneous heat flux boundary condition
Turgut, Eren; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
Advancements in micro/nanotechnology along with the size reduction in avionics, raise the importance of microchannel heat sink utilization in the field of electronics cooling. The usage of conventional uniform pin fin arrays or microchannels in the presence of non-uniform heating conditions are not sufficient to overcome the occurrence of the hotspots. Consequently, significant temperature gradients take place at the surface to be cooled. In this study, the effects of some design parameters on the non-unifo...
Effect of annealing on the mechanical properties of pla parts produced by fused filament fabrication
Aydın, Sencer; Özerinç, Sezer; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2021-9-01)
Additive manufacturing has become a disruptive technology for the production of load bearing components in a wide range of applications. Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is among the most effective and economical techniques for the printing of polymeric parts. There are numerous thermoplastic materials suitable for FFF. Among these, Polylactic acid (PLA) is a renewable, sustainable and cost-effective alternative. For better utilization of PLA parts produced by FFF, there is a need to understand the structur...
BEHAVIOUR OF HTPB-POLYURETHANE ELASTOMER MATERIAL REINFORCED WITH MICRO AND NANO PARTICLES
Erten, Emre; Kaynak, Cevdet; Atalar, Taner; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-8)
Hydroxyl-Terminated-Polybutadiene Polyurethane (HTPB-PU) elastomer materials are mainly used in the “liner” layer of solid propellant rocket motor cases. The required levels of mechanical and thermal properties are obtained by reinforcing this elastomer matrix with approximately 10 wt% micron-sized carbon black (mCB) particles. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to investigate effects of mCB alone and then when used together with 3 wt% nano-sized carbon black (nCB), micron-sized zirconia (mZrO2),...
