Periodic measurement of flow rate in production wells is essential to monitor performance of geothermal wells and reservoir. Tracerdilution method has been introduced as a reliable, cheap and environment friendly technique to measure mass flow rate and enthalpy intwo phase geothermal systems. In this study, Sodium Fluorescein is used to measure liquid phase mass flow rate in a two phase productionline and in a single phase liquid injection line. The study includes the effect of flow regime and flowrate on the accuracy of tracer flowtest. The test results obtained for several wells in Alaşehir and Kizildere geothermal fields are confirmed with silencer-weir box methodand results of the test in a single phase liquid line is verified with orifice plate meter.

State estimation of transient flow in gas pipelines by a Kalman filter-based estimator
Durgut, İsmail; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2016-09-01)
In this study, real-time estimation of flow rate and pressure along natural gas pipelines under transient flow condition is aimed. The estimation of the internal states of gas pipelines is based on a recursive discrete data filtering algorithm called the discrete Kalman filter. The state space representation of the transient flow in gas pipelines, which is required for the filtering algorithm, is established by a discrete form of the nonlinear partial differential equations (PDE's) describing the characteri...
Investigation of the groundwater modelling component of the Integrated Water Flow Model (IWFM)
Ercan, Ali; Dogrul, Emin C.; Kadir, Tariq N. (2016-01-01)
The Integrated Water Flow Model (IWFM), developed by the California Department of Water Resources, is an integrated hydrological model that simulates key flow processes including groundwater flows, streamflow, stream-aquifer interactions, rainfall-runoff and infiltration. It also simulates the agricultural water demand as a function of soil, crop and climatic characteristics, as well as irrigation practices, and allows the user to meet these demands through pumping and stream diversions. This study investig...
Experimental investigation of single phase liquid flow and heat transfer in multiport minichannels
Altınöz, Mesru; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Baker, Derek Keıth; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
This thesis aims to experimentally investigate pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of single phase water flow in rectangular minichannels. The small channels are an area of interest in heat transfer field since 1970’s owing to their enhanced heat transfer characteristics. However, the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of these channels are not fully established as there is a wide number of studies in literature showing inconsistent results with each other. In order to investigate t...
Application of fluorescent micro particles as geothermal tracers
Aydın, Hakkın; Akın, Serhat; Salar, Mustafa (null; 2018-02-14)
Tracer testing of flow between injection and production wells is an effective tool to map fluid flow pathways in a geothermal reservoir. Tracer concentration curves can be used to provide insight into projected thermal drawdown in the reservoir or thermal breakthrough of re-injected fluids, estimating inter-well volumes and flow geometries. Although radioactive tracers have been used in the past many tracer tests now use chemical tracers that are less hazardous to handle. Fluorescent organic compounds such ...
Mol solution for transient turbulent flow in a heated pipe
Uygur, AB; Tarhan, T; Selçuk, Nevin (2005-08-01)
A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, based on direct numerical simulation (DNS) and method of lines (MOL) approach previously developed for the prediction of transient turbulent, incompressible, confined non-isothermal flows with constant wall temperature was applied to the prediction of turbulent flow and temperature fields in flows dominated by forced convection in circular tubes with strong heating. The code was parallelized in order to meet the high grid resolutions required by DNS of turbulent fl...
