Sürdürülebilir ve Ekolojik Yüzey Malzemeleri

1999-10-09
Many dynamic ecosystems are developed according to the climatic and natural conditions of the built environment. After 1950, there were serious problems, like the increase in carbon emissions and toxic wastes, demolition of natural resources, air and water pollution, that were destroying the ecological balance. As a solution, new concept, sustainability, has appeared. In a sustainable human settlement, all human needs are satisfied without seriously polluting or destroying the natural environment. Modern building surfaces and inorganic surface materials create big environmental problems. According to the industrial ecology concept, during the design and production of industrial materials and processes environmental performance is main concern. Development of environmental performance of building materials means development of environmental performance of surfaces. Besides energy performance of surface materials; good indoor air quality is needed for the sake of building occupants in order to supply comfort. In this paper, the necessity of energy efficient and sustainable surface and surface materials and how it is supplied is explained.

Adopting sustainability assessment criteria to guide urban regeneraton projects: two case studies in Ankara
Seyhan, Zeynep.; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Department of Architecture (2019)
Increasing awareness of climate change, loss of biodiversity and increase in environmental pollution due to the current trends of consumption in the urban areas have brought about a myriad of schemas to guide environmentally friendly urban developments. These schemes or Neighborhood Sustainability Assessment Tools (NSA Tools) provide a convenient way to establish healthier and sustainable cities. Meanwhile, Turkey is going through a rapid urban transformation process that is being questioned with respect to...
Integrated management policies for coastal archaeological environments of Turkey: Erdemli-Silifke coastal region, Mersin
Naycı, Nida; Şahin Güçhan, Neriman; Department of Architecture (2010)
Being important natural areas due to togetherness of terrestrial and water ecosystems; coastal araes (sea, lake and river coasts) possesses important historic and cultural environments shıowing relationship of mankind with water developed during different periods since ancient periods onwards. In this sense; having housed various civilizations since anquity onwards, Turkey has diverse and rich coastal archaeological sites. However, in addition to natural processes occuring in short and long terms due to the...
The Impacts of climate change and land use on the ecosystem structure and services of Lake Beyşehir
Bucak, Tuba; Beklioğlu, Meryem; Trolle, Dennis; Department of Biology (2017)
In this thesis, the main aim was to predict the impacts of climatic and land use changes on the ecosystem structure of Lake Beyşehir with the perspective of ecosystem services. Modeling results revealed the sensitivity of ecological and hydrological dynamics of Lake Beyşehir to climatic changes. Climate change scenarios led to reductions in total inflow rates and water levels, and the results showed that significant reductions in water abstraction are needed to maintain the lake in the future. The outcomes ...
Sustainability and industrial design education: the case of the department of industrial design at METU, Turkey
Tural, Senem; Ünlü, Canan Emine; Department of Industrial Design (2009)
Problems that the earth has faced with such as the depletion of natural resources, contamination of water, air and land, extension of species, and the global warming have brought up the sustainable development to the agenda. This state of affairs has elicited the undeniable role of industrial design activity on the sustainable development; sustainability has become an important concern of industrial design education. The purpose of this study is to determine the state of sustainable design education in the ...
Biomimicry for sustainability : an educational project in sustainable product design
Bakırlıoğlu, Yekta; Doğan, Çağla; Department of Industrial Design (2012)
The notion of sustainability has become an extensive area of research ever since the term emerged in the late 1980s, due to the negative effects of unsustainable production and consumption patterns on environmental stewardship, social equity and economic development. There have been various approaches developed for product design and education within the context sustainability. Biomimicry is one of those approaches, and its implications for product design education have recently started to be explored. In t...
