Renewable energy planning in Turkey with a focus on hydropower
Gök, Emre; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
As a country highly dependent on foreign fossil fuel sources, Turkey experiences many problems due to its increasing energy consumption in parallel with increasing population and rapid economic growth. Foreign fossil fuel dependency adversely affects sustainable development of the country by hindering its economic development. Because of this, renewable energy sources of the country should be evaluated and developed as soon as possible. Prioritization of the development of renewable energy sources to increa...
Rural women in Turkey (1923-): an examination of the transformation of agriculture and the environment in Turkey through gender lenses
Yüksekkaya, Özge; Pelizzon, Sheila Margaret; Department of Social Policy (2018)
Although first development and later neoliberalism have been viewed as carriers of progress and prosperity, their non-economic costs, on rural women and the environment, have not received much attention. This thesis is an attempt to focus on the developments in the capitalist world economy and their effects on agriculture, peasant life and the environment in Turkey through an examination of the status of rural women by focusing on three time periods: The Early Republican era, the developmentalist period and...
Development of the algorithm of SOlAR TURnKEY: solar electricity software for Turkey
Karaveli, Abdullah Buğrahan; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin; Soytaş, Uğur; Department of Earth System Science (2018)
Together with the increase in population, consumption, environmental threats, social inclusion and poverty eradication needs, natural resource corruption and price, rapid electrification of the world necessitates to meet energy demand in the most efficient, economic, environmental and social way. At this point with the sharp decrease in prices, increase in efficiency and development in technology in addition to environmental friendliness and social inclusiveness, solar electricity has gained importance when...
Energy indicators for sustainable development: comparison of Turkey and selected european union countries
Toğçuoğlu, Mehlika Merve; Aşık, Serap; Akbostancı Özkazanç, Elif; Department of Economics (2011)
The aim of this study is to compare the sustainable development perspective of Turkey with selected European Union countries in terms of Energy Indicators for Sustainable Energy between 1980-2008. The study is conducted in a comparative and descriptive way by using energy indicators. The common energy policy priorities of Turkey and European Union are determined in the light of recent literature. An energy indicator set is constructed according to energy priorities, namely, energy efficiency and energy inte...
Statistical analysis of electricity energy consumption with respect to provinces in Turkey
Çakmak, Mehmet; Yozgatlıgil, Ceylan; İlk Dağ, Özlem; Department of Statistics (2014)
In recent years, the economic developments in Turkey, rapid increase in population and industrialization and such factors have led to an increment in the demand for electricity in Turkey. Therefore; the accurate estimation of electricity consumption will be important in determining the country's energy strategy. The purpose of this study is to forecast the future electricity energy consumption by acquiring the most consistent and accurate forecast models of the provinces in Turkey by using the fixed effects...
