Performing The First Single Event Effect Tests using The METU Defocusing Beamline Project
Demirköz, Melahat Bilge (2018-12-27)
METU-Defocusing Beam Line (METU-DBL) project aims to perform Single Event Effect (SEE) tests for space, nuclear and other applications. Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEA) has a cyclotron which can accelerate protons up to 30 MeV kinetic energy at the Proton Accelerator Facility (PAF) mainly for radioisotope production and for research and development (R&D) purposes. In the facility, the stable proton beam current is variable between 0.1 µA to 1.2 mA and the beam size is nearly 1 cm x 1 cm. METU-DBL pre-...
Feature enhancement with deep generative models in deep bayesian active learning
Duymuş, Pınar Ezgi; Ertekin Bolelli, Şeyda; Department of Computer Engineering (2022-9)
Data-intensive models emerge as new advances in Deep Learning take place. However, access to annotated datasets with many data points is not constantly prevalent. This situation emphasizes the need for Active Learning to select the least possible amount of data without compromising the accuracy of the classifier models. Recent advancements occur in Deep Bayesian Active Learning (DBAL), which means incorporating uncertainty of model parameters into a Deep Network. In this work, we present an algorithm that i...
A high-performance silicon-on-insulator MEMS gyroscope operating at atmospheric pressure
Alper, Said Emre; Azgın, Kıvanç; Akın, Tayfun (Elsevier BV, 2007-03-30)
This paper presents a new, high-performance silicon-on-insulator (SOI) MEMS gyroscope with decoupled oscillation modes. The gyroscope structure allows it to achieve matched-resonance-frequencies, large drive-mode oscillation amplitude, high sense-mode quality factor, and low mechanical cross-talk. The gyroscope is fabricated through the commercially available SOIMUMPS process of MEMSCAP Inc. The fabricated gyroscope has minimum capacitive sense gaps of 2.6 mu m and a structural silicon thickness of 25 mu m,...
The State-of-the-Art Numerical Tools for Modeling Landslide Tsunamis: A Short Review
Heidarzadeh, Mohammad; Krastel, Sebastian; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (2014-01-01)
We present a short review of the state-of-the-art numerical tools that have been used for modeling landslide-generated waves. A comparative study is conducted on the physical properties of earthquake- and landslide-generated waves suggesting that both dispersion and nonlinearity effects may be neglected for the former waves whereas they may be considered for the latter ones. We introduce landslide tsunami models and group them into three classes: (1) models treating the moving mass as a fluid, (2) models es...
The Role of VR as a New Game Changer in Computational Design Education
Sorguç, Arzu; Özgenel, Çağlar Fırat; Katipoğlu, Mert Ozan; Rasulzade, Ramin (2017-09-22)
With the rapid advances in technology, virtual reality(VR) re-emerged as an affordable technology providing new potentials for virtual learning environments(VLE). Within the scope of this study, firstly a general perspective on potentials of VR to create an appropriate VLE is put forward regarding the potentials related with learning modalities. Then, VR as a VLE in architectural education is discussed and utilization of VR is revisited considering the fundamentals of education as how to enhance skills rega...
