An Fe-Al thin film system was studied for the purpose of examining the formation and development of intermetallic phases, which were formed at the aluminum (Al) film-steel substrate interfaces. Al films having different initial thicknesses in the range of 2μ,14μm were deposited by physical vapor deposition and were then annealed at different temperatures (range: 300-650 °C) and for different time intervals (10 min-8 h). In order to explain the formation mechanisms of the intermetallics at the mentioned Al-Fe film interfaces, X-ray diffractograms (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) studies were used. The results showed that the intermetallic phases FeAl2 and Fe2Al5 were the most dominant phases that could be observed, and that they were formed sequentially, in contrast to intermetallics, which formed synchronously in bulk materials. © TÜBİTAK.

Optical and structural characteristics of electrodeposited Cd 1-xZnxS nanostructured thin films
Erturk, K.; Isik, M.; Terlemezoglu, M.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2021-04-01)
The structural and optical characteristics of Cd1-xZnxS (CdZnS) thin films grown by the electrodeposition method were investigated in the present paper. The crystalline structure of the grown CdZnS thin film was determined as cubic wurtzite due to observed diffraction peaks associated with (111) and (220) planes. Atomic compositional ratios of the constituent elements were obtained using energy dispersive spectroscopy and doping concentration of the Zn was found as 5% (x ~ 0.05). Scanning electron microscop...
Synthesis and characterization of fluorene-type and hydrogenated amorphous carbon thin films in RF and DC glow discharges
Mansuroğlu, Doğan; Bilikmen, Kadri Sinan; Department of Physics (2015)
Fluorene (C13H10)-type and hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) thin films were synthesized under a capacitively coupled single radio frequency (RF) and a direct current (DC) plasma systems. In the first system, the RF plasma reactor, circular parallel plate electrodes were used; the upper electrode was connected to 13.56 MHz RF power while the lower electrode was grounded. To control the positive ion bombardment, a negative bias voltage was applied between the holder of the substrate and the wall of the c...
Sol-Gel processing of organically modified ITO thin films and characterization of their optoelectronic and microstructural properties
Kesim, Mehmet Tümerkan; Durucan, Caner; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2012)
Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films were formed on glass substrates by sol-gel method. Coating sols were prepared using indium chloride tetrahydrate (InCl3•4H2O) and tin-chloride pentahydrate (SnCl4•5H2O) stabilized in organic solvents (acetylacetone and ethanol). First attempt was to synthesize ITO thin films using standard/unmodified coating sols. The effect of calcination treatment in air (300 – 600 °C) and number of coating layer(s) (1, 4, 7 or 10) on optoelectronic properties (electrical conductivity and...
K band substrate integrated waveguide power dividers /
Kiriş, Orçun; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
In this thesis, various K band power divider structures are developed using the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. In the design and production of the 1 x 2 Y and T - Junction power dividers known as the conventional power divider types, good agreements are observed between measured and simulated S11 results. Also, the differences between simulated and measured S21 results are approximately 0.4 – 0.8 dB at the operating frequency. In addition to these, 1 x 4 dividers obtained by successive add...
Spatial distribution of crystalline corrosion products formed during corrosion of stainless steel in concrete
Serdar, Marijana; Akgül, Çağla; Kunz, Martin; Bjegovic, Dubravka; Wenk, Hans-Rudolf; Monteiro, Paulo JM (2015-05-01)
The mineralogy and spatial distribution of nano-crystalline corrosion products that form in the steel/concrete interface were characterized using synchrotron X-ray micro-diffraction (mu-XRD). Two types of low-nickel high-chromium reinforcing steels embedded into mortar and exposed to NaCl solution were investigated. Corrosion in the samples was confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). mu-XRD revealed that goethite (alpha-FeOOH) and akaganeite (beta-FeOOH) are the main iron oxide-hydroxides...
