Development of organic-inorganic composite membranes for fuel cell applications
Erdener, Hülya; Baç, Nurcan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2007)
Hydrogen is considered to be the most promising energy carrier of the 21st century due to its high energy density and sustainability. The chemical energy of hydrogen can be directly converted into electricity by means of electrochemical devices called fuel cells. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are the most preferred type of fuel cells due to their low operating temperatures enabling fast and easy start-ups and quick responses to load changes. One of the most important components of a PEMFC is t...
Development and characterization of composite proton exchange membranes for fuel cell applications
Akay, Ramiz Gültekin; Baç, Nurcan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2008)
Intensive research on development of alternative low cost, high temperature membranes for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells is going on because of the well-known limitations of industry standard perfluoro-sulfonic acid (PFSA) membranes. To overcome these limitations such as the decrease in performance at high temperatures (>80 0C) and high cost, non-fluorinated aromatic hydrocarbon based polymers are attractive. The objective of this study is to develop alternative membranes that possess comparable ...
Design and performance evaluation of a fuel filter
Ayrancı, Hakan; Albayrak, Kahraman; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
This thesis analyzes design criteria’s, performance evaluation of fuel filter. Fundamental concepts, definition and systems has been discussed at literature survey parts. Fundamentals of filter design tests and calculations are discussed. In Addition Frequency and amplitude effect on fuel filter efficiency investigated with different particle sizes by preparing special test set up. Test results has been analyzed by using Regression, Anova and Analyze of Variance methods with Minitab software.
Analysis of regenerative cooling ın liquid propellant rocket engines
Boysan, Mustafa Emre; Ulaş, Abdullah; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
High combustion temperatures and long operation durations require the use of cooling techniques in liquid propellant rocket engines. For high-pressure and high-thrust rocket engines, regenerative cooling is the most preferred cooling method. In regenerative cooling, a coolant flows through passages formed either by constructing the chamber liner from tubes or by milling channels in a solid liner. Traditionally, approximately square cross sectional channels have been used. However, recent studies have shown ...
