ODTÜ Mimarlık Tarihi Lisansüstü Programı, 1988-1989 öğretim yılında açılmıştır. Programda o tarihten bu yana mimarlık tarihi yüksek lisans derecesi, 2005 yılından bu yana da doktora derecesi verilmektedir. Mimarlık Bölümü bünyesinde ve Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü’ne bağlı olarak kurulan ODTÜ Mimarlık Tarihi Lisansüstü Programı, özerk çalışma alanını mimarlık ile toplumsal ve beşeri bilimlerin arakesitinde tanımlamaktadır. Bu iki yönlü yapılanma, Program’ın, mimari bakış açısından uzaklaşmadan, tarih çalışması alanı olarak sahip olduğu kimliğini korumasını sağlamış, geleneksel olarak bağlantılı olduğu disiplinlerin yanı sıra, görece yeni ve farklı alanlara açılımına zemin oluşturmuştur. Eğitim hedefini mimarlık tarihine ulusal ve uluslararası düzeyde katkı için gerekli bilgi ve araştırma becerilerine sahip uzmanlar yetiştirmek olarak tanımlayan Program’da, son yıllarda mimarlık tarihi disiplininin değişen kuramları ve yöntemleri göz önüne alınarak, eleştirel, kültürlerarası ve disiplinlerarası bir yaklaşım öne çıkarılmaktadır. Böylece Program, alanın güncel araştırma ve eğitim platformlarında yer almayı, ürettiği mimarlık tarihi bilgisini ulusal ve uluslararası ortamlarda paylaşmayı ve mimarlık tarihinin bir uzmanlık alanı olarak kurumsallaşmasında etkin bir rol oynamayı hedeflemektedir
