Polymerization and characterization of methylmethacrylate by atom transfer radical polymerization
Aran, Bengi; Usanmaz, Ali; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2004)
In this work, methylmethacrylate, MMA was polymerized by ATRP method to obtain low molecular weight living polymers. The initiator was p-toluenesulfonylchloride and catalyst ligand complex system were CuCl-4,4̕ dimethyl 2,2̕bipyridine. Polymers with controlled molecular weight were obtained. The polymer chains were shown by NMR investigation to be mostly syndiotactic. The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of some polymer samples were measured by GPC method. The K and a constants in [h]=K Ma...
POLYMERIZATION OF ALLYLTHIOUREA BY CONSTANT-CURRENT ELECTROLYSIS
OZKAN, H; Usanmaz, Ali; ONAL, MA (Wiley, 1994-11-01)
Allylthiourea was polymerized by constant current electroinitiation in acetonitrile using tetrabutylammonium fluoroborate as supporting electrolyte. The polymer obtained was insoluble in common organic solvents. FTIR studies showed that polymerization propagates by addition through the C=C double bond. The cyclic voltammogram of the monomer gave two irreversible oxidation peaks at + 1.3 V and + 2.4 V versus Ag-degree/Ag+ reference electrode at 25-degrees-C. Polymerization at room temperature gave a limi...
POLYMERIZATION OF 4-VINYL-1-CYCLOHEXENE BY RADIATION AND CHEMICAL CATALYSTS
CEVIK, NN; Usanmaz, Ali (Informa UK Limited, 1993-01-01)
4-Vinyl-1-cyclohexene was polymerized by radiation at room temperature under vacuum and in atmospheric air. The change of percent conversion with irradiation time is almost linear up to limiting conversion, but it is S-type in atmospheric air. It was shown that the mechanism of polymerization is most probably ionic rather than free-radical. The cationic polymerization was carried out in dichloromethane solution at -8-degrees-C using BF3(C2H5)2O as catalyst. The nature of the polymer obtained was investigate...

Polymerization and polymer characterization of acetylenedicarboxylic acid monopotassium salt
Anaçoğlu, Elif; Usanmaz, Ali; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2005)
Acetylenedicarboxylic acid monopotassium salt, ADCA-K, was polymerized by radiation induced solid-state and chemical initiator induced solution polymerization methods. Radiation induced solid-state polymerization was carried out by Co-60 g-radiation at room temperature. The powder polymer obtained was soluble in water but insoluble in common organic solvents. The solution polymerization initiated by benzoylperoxide was carried out in an oil bath at 90°C. The polymer obtained was soluble in water but insolub...
