Synthesis of manganese-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Mn) diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum dots is reported. The synthesis was carried out by room temperature precipitation method using zinc acetate and manganese acetate as precursors and ethylene glycol as solvent. Analytical characterization was performed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The lattice parameters of ZnO:Mn quantum dots-as estimated from the XRD analyses-slightly increased compared to those of undoped ZnO. This suggests substitutional incorporation of Mn into ZnO lattice. TEM examinations revealed single crystalline ZnO:Mn quantum dots with an average particle size smaller

Synthesis of graphene oxide/magnesium oxide nanocomposites with high-rate adsorption of methylene blue
Heidarizad, Mahdi; Şengör, Sema Sevinç (2016-12-01)
A series of graphene oxide/magnesium oxide nanocomposites (GO/MgO NCs) were and applied for the removal of Methylene Blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. The prepared NCs were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that MgO particles was successfully decorated on GO. The impacts of different experimental variables on the remova...
Synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles by aqueous methods and effect of metal incorporation on the structural/functional properties of nanoparticles
Altıntaş Yıldırım, Özlem; Durucan, Caner; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2014)
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures have attracted considerable attention in many electrical, optoelectronic and magnetic applications due to their unique properties originating form characteristic wide band gap and large exciton binding energy of ZnO. Electrical, optical and magnetic properties of ZnO nanostructures strongly depend on their size and morphology. Therefore, there has been a strong interest in the synthesis of ZnO nanostructures with well-controlled size and shape. These synthesis approaches shou...
Synthesis, characterization and investigation of thermoluinescence properties of strontium pyrophosphate doped with metals
İlkay, Levent Sait; Özbayoğlu, Gülhan; Department of Mining Engineering (2009)
Strontium pyrophosphate is a promising phosphate that is used widely in the industry as a result of its luminescent, fluorescent, dielectric, semi-conductor, catalyst, magnetic and ion exchange properties. Thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD) is one of such areas. Recent researches in METU on thermoluminescence property of strontium pyrophosphate showed that strontium pyrophosphate could give enough intensity for radiation dosimetry when doped with oxides of some rare-earth elements. In this study strontium py...
Synthesis, characterization and electrochromic properties of copolymer of 3-{[4-(thien-3-yl-methoxy)phenoxy]methyl} thiophene with thiophene
Erden, Ayca; Sahin, Elif; Gullu, Mustafa; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-08-01)
(3- {[4-(Thien-3-yl-methoxy)phenoxy]methyl} thiophene) (TMPMT) was synthesized via the reaction of 3-bromomethyl-thiophene with hydroquinone and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Electrochemical copolymerization of TMPMT with thiophene in acetonitrile/boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (AN/BFEE) solvent mixture was achieved using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) as the supporting electrolyte. Resulting copolymer was characterize...
Synthesis of iron borophosphates and phosphates with zeo-type structures
Tuncel, Selcan; Kızılyallı, Meral; Department of Chemistry (2004)
New iron phosphate and borophosphate compounds were synthesized and characterized by single crystal/powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, electron microscopy and elemental analysis. Using several compositions, Fey B(PO4)x type of compounds were attempted to be prepared by solid state reactions. The solid state reactions of boron compounds with a phosphating agent has been completed at 950oC. A new product Fe2BP3O12 is synthesized and indexed in this...
