: LCL filters are widely used in distributed power-generation systems to attenuate high-frequency harmonics caused by pulse-width modulation switching of grid-connected inverters. A resonance occurs due to the series-connected reactive components. In order to damp resonance effects, active and passive damping methods are used. Lower switching frequencies are typically preferred to decrease switching power losses with high-power applications. Thus, control bandwidth of the system is limited and implementation of active damping gets harder. As a result, passive damping methods are commonly used in highpower applications. In this study, performances of two most commonly used passive damping methods which are series R damped and shunt R-C damped are analysed and compared in terms of resonance damping, grid current attenuation at high frequencies, and power losses on damping circuits.

Performance Evaluation and Selection of PWM Switching and Control Methods for Grid Connected Modular Multilevel Converters
Ciftci, Baris; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2015-09-24)
This paper focuses on the determination of suitable carrier based pulse width modulation (PWM) switching and control methods for grid connected modular multilevel converters (MMCs). Characterization of various level-shifted and phase-shifted carrier based PWM methods are provided in terms of output voltage waveforms both for N+1 and 2N+1 level output phase voltages. Carrier based PWM method based control approaches are evaluated for MMC. Performances of different control methods are evaluated and compared f...
Performance analysis and comparison of reduced common mode voltage PWM and standard PWM techniques for three-phase voltage source inverters
Un, E; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2006-03-23)
This paper investigates the performance characteristics of the reduced common mode voltage (RCMV) PWM methods for three phase voltage source inverters and provides a comparison with the standard PWM methods. PWM methods are reviewed and their pulse patterns and common mode voltage patterns illustrated. The AC output current ripple, DC link input current ripple, and output voltage linearity characteristics of each modulation method are thoroughly investigated by analytical methods and simulations. The analys...
Design of Selective Linear Phase Cross-Coupled Dielectric Resonator Filters
Ozturk, Onur Ozan; Oruc, Sacid; Alicioglu, Bulent; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2018-11-02)
In this paper, a highly selective linear phase filter is designed and implemented in cross-coupled form using dielectric resonators in Ku band to be used as a channel filter in IMUX of a satellite receiver. Extreme delay flatness is required: 1.5 nS delay ripple over 60 % of the passband and 12 nS near the band edges. The initial design is carried out as 10 resonator symmetric cross-coupled filter with all ideal inverter couplings realizing two finite transmission zeros (FTZ) satisfying also the delay flatn...
Series active filter design, control, and implementation with a novel load voltage harmonic extraction method
Şentürk, Osman Selçuk; Hava, Ahmet Masum; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
Series Active Filters (SAF) are designed for harmonic isolation and load voltage regulation of single-phase and three-phase voltage harmonic source type nonlinear loads. The novel Absolute Value Method (AVM) for load voltage harmonic extraction is proposed and applied in the control algorithm of SAF. The SAF compensated systems are represented by simplified linear models such that SAF controller gains can be easily determined. Harmonic isolation and load voltage regulation performances of 2.5 kW single-phas...
