In project network organizations, information is critical for streamlining operations. Collection, analysis and communication of project information and coordination of information exchanges between different project participants are essential for a project’s success. Information technology (IT) systems can greatly influence the effectiveness of management of information not only within a project team, but also between the project team and other project-related organizations. IT systems have been rapidly growing over the last decade providing a diverse suite of systems to be utilized within project organizations. A better understanding of IT choices and a formalized decision making about selection of a set of them for a given project are of utmost importance. Currently, the decisions on selecting a set of systems to incorporate on a given project are done in an ad-hoc and trial-and-error basis. In this paper, we provide a review of the research on use of IT in construction management. We present a case study in construction to show how IT (or lack of IT) enables (or hampers) effective operations, and discuss the need for a framework for selecting IT in construction projects.

Modeling Information Dependencies in Construction Project Network Organizations
Pekeriçli, Mehmet Koray; Karaesmen, Itir (null; 2003-12-01)
This ongoing study intends to explore and formalize the information dependency patterns in network forms of organizations in construction project management. In construction projects, information is critical for seamless and cost-effective operations. Communication of project information and coordination of information exchanges between different project participants are essential for a project's success. On the other hand, a better understanding of information dependencies between participants is of utmost...
Common Practices and Problems in Effort Data Collection in the Software Industry
Özkaya Eren, Ayşegül; Demirors, Onur (2011-11)
Effort data is crucial for project management activities in software projects. This data is utilized in estimations that are required for project planning, in the formation of benchmarking data sets and as a main input for project monitoring and control activities. However, there are known problems regarding effort data collection in the industry. In this study we investigate the effort data collection practices in the industry and factors that lead to inaccurate effort data collection. A pilot study was co...
UNCERTAINTY CALCULATION-AS-A-SERVICE: AN IIOT APPLICATION FOR AUTOMATED RF POWER SENSOR CALIBRATION
Çetinkaya, Anıl; Kaya, Muhammed Çağrı; Danaci, Erkan; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S. (2022-01-01)
Providing automated and networked solutions on the cloud will remarkably facilitate ongoing digitalization efforts in Metrology and the calibration industry. The AutoRFPower application was developed to automate the RF power measurement process and uncertainty calculations. This study presents our ongoing research on moving this application to a cloud environment and adapting it to perform power sensor calibrations. The cloud-based application initiates communication with calibration equipment, transfers te...
Investigating networked learning in corporate context: an embedded design mixed method study examining online knowledge sharing and collaboration via social network analysis
Tufan, Didem; Yıldırım, İbrahim Soner; Günel Kılıç, Banu; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2016)
This study, implementing an Embedded Mixed Method Design incorporating Social Network Analysis (SNA), aimed to explore how employees participated and communicated in a networked learning environment within corporate context by investigating employees’ discussions on an online wall platform. For this aim, Learning Management System logs of an e-learning company is used. They included self-organizing social groups, in an informal learning environment. The wall platform data from two social groups, including 5...
Pooling through lateral transshipments in service parts systems

We study the inventory management problem of a service center operating in a decentralized service parts network. The service centers collaborate through inventory and service pooling, and through sharing information on the inventory status. Upon demand arrival, a service center may request a part from the other center, in which case a payment is made. Under this competitive and collaborative environment, we first characterize the optimal operating policy of an individual service center. Through computation...
