Optimum design of high-speed flexible robotic arms with dynamic behavior constraints
Oral, Süha (1997-10-01)
A methodology is presented for the optimum design of robotic arms under time-dependent stress and displacement constraints by using mathematical programming. Finite elements are used in the modeling of the flexible links. The design variables are the cross-sectional dimensions of the elements. The time dependence of the constraints is removed through the use of equivalent constraints based on the most critical constraints. It is shown that this approach yields a better design than using equivalent constrain...
Application of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) method for genetic analyses
Karabıçak, Seher; Volkan, Mürvet; Kocabıyık, Semra; Department of Chemistry (2011)
Raman spectroscopy offers much better spectral selectivity but its usage has been limited by its poor sensitivity. The discovery of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect, which results in increased sensitivities of up to 108-fold for some compounds, has eliminated this drawback. A new SERS active substrate was developed in this study. Silver nanoparticle-doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coated SERS substrate prepared through chemical and electrochemical reduction of silver particles dispersed in the ...
Analysis of internal explosion and structural response to blast loading
Turcan, Uğur Can; Ulaş, Abdullah; Serin, Nadir; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2012)
In this thesis, blast overpressure due to internal explosion and dynamic response to this loading of the structure is analyzed. Firstly, theoretical backgrounds of computational procedures are presented. The basic principles of the hydrocodes and semi empirical methods are explained in detail. In the analysis of blast overpressure, partially vented structures are examined. Three different venting areas and three different charge weights are employed in the study. Peak pressure, time and impulse parameters a...
Immune system based distributed node and rate selection in wireless sensor networks
Atakan, Baris; Akan, Ozguer B. (2006-12-13)
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are event-based systems that rely on the collective effort of dense deployed sensor nodes. Due to the dense deployment, since sensor observations are spatially correlated with respect to spatial location of sensor nodes, it may not be necessary for every sensor node to transmit its data. Therefore, due to the resource constraints of sensor nodes it is needed to select the minimum number of sensor nodes to transmit the data to the sink. Furthermore, to achieve the application-...
Surface processes: obstacles in Aerial Archaeology, examples from turkey
Toprak, V (2000-11-17)
The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the importance of recognition of surface processes in aerial archaeological investigations with some examples from Turkey. Natural, geological processes often exhibit extreme forces on the surface and influence ancient sites in different ways. Remote sensing techniques can help to monitor these processes and their affects.
