The Of-Solakli Hydropower Development Project (HDP) is designed to generate 380 MW of electricity through the diversion of six streams into a headrace tunnel and maintaining a head difference of 1 000 m above the underground power station. The tunnel system is located within felsic and mafic magmatic rocks, and volcanogenic flysch. In this paper an engineering geological evaluation of the HDP is introduced. The field investigations included geological strip mapping, core drilling, and intense discontinuity surveying. A portion of the headrace tunnel was re-located due to adverse foundation conditions. The rock mass qualities of various lithological units were determined and the necessary support systems are described.

Hydraulic characteristics of modified tyrolean type intakes
Yılmaz, Kuta; Göğüş, Mustafa; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
Today, besides the dams, construction of runoff-river type hydroelectric power plants are also important for producing the required electricity. Among the runoff-river hydroelectric power plants, Tyrolean type intakes are very popular as they do not need reservoirs. These intakes are mostly constructed on rivers which carry sediment and have large slopes. The inclination angle of the rack, θ, rack length, L, and the rack spacing, e, are the most important parameters that determine the amount of sediment tha...
OPTIMAL CONTROLLER DESIGN FOR SPEED GOVERNORS OF HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT
Altinoz, Okkes Tolga; KOŞALAY, İLHAN; Gezer, Derya (VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, 2020-06-01)
Speed governors have critical importance on hydroelectric power plants, which are adjusted to the rotating speed of hydroelectric generation based on load demand of the grid. The rotating speed is the main factor to balance power generation and load demand. The well-designed controller is needed to control speed governors with high accuracy. A well-defined model is needed to obtain desired control structure. Therefore, in this study, initially, the mathematical model of a hydroelectric power plant is obtain...
Development of a computer software for hydraulic design of small hydropower facility
Alimoğlu, Emir; Yanmaz, A Melih; Bozkuş, Zafer; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
Run-of-river type hydroelectrical power plants are the facilities that use only the available flow on the river without storing it to generate electrical energy. These kind of facilities are composed of structural components such as diversion weir, conveyance line, forebay, penstock and power house. In this thesis, a computer program called “MiniHEPP Hydraulic Design” is developed in order to perform the hydraulic design of run-of-river type hydropower plants. This program which runs under the Windows opera...
Numerical modelling of reinforced concrete pressure tunnels using the overlapping lattice method
Işık, Gökberk; Tuncay, Kağan; Department of Earthquake Studies (2019)
Pressure tunnels transmit water from the reservoir to the turbines of hydroelectric power plants. The computational studies conducted to understand the behavior and shed light on the design guides of pressure tunnels were scarcely validated with experimental data as experimental work on pressure tunnels is very limited. Recent experimental studies on reinforced concrete pressure tunnels carried out at Middle East Technical University (METU), for the first time, allow computational models to be validated wit...
Investigation Of Waterhammer Problems In Çamlidere Dam - İvedik Water Treatment Plant Pipeline At Various Hydraulic Conditions
Sakabaş, Emre; Bozkuş, Zafer; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
Çamlıdere Dam supplies significant portion of the potable water demand of the City of Ankara. Consequently, it is very important that the pipelines extending over 60 km between the dam and the treatment plant at İvedik operate continuously. At present, two composite parallel lines are in operation and construction of a third line is considered for the future. It is the aim of this study to investigate the water hammer problems to be expected under various scenarios and also suggest the safe operation condit...
