The noble gases, in particular helium isotopes, provide valuable information on the mantle source of recentbasaltic volcanism, especially when linked to trace elements and radiogenic isotopes. Although the alkalinevolcanics in the Kütahya region have been studied in detail by several works by means of trace element variations, radiogenic dating and isotope systematics, noble gas isotope compositions that could significantly contribute todynamics of volcanism have not been investigated yet. In this study which aims to fill the deficiency of such data, helium isotope compositions of olivine-basalts in Kütahya region are measured. In this study we report helium isotope compositions of olivine from basalts. In olivine-basalts in alkalinevolcanic rocks from the Kütahya region, western Turkey, are investigated. 3He/4He range from 3.0 to 5.19 Ra.These low helium isotope values are most probably indicative of a lithospheric mantle source. Kütahya alkalinevolcanics are enriched in incompatible elements and show prominent negative Ti, Nd and Ta anomaly. Primitivemantle normalized trace element concentration patterns clearly display continental crustal contamination.Chemical compositions and helium isotope systematics imply contribution of a lithospheric mantle source andcontamination of continental crust in the genesis of the Kütahya alkaline lavas.

Investigation of gas hydrate potential of the Black Sea and modelling of gas production from a hypothetical Class 1 methane hydrate reservoir in the Black Sea conditions
Merey, Sukru; Sınayuç, Çağlar (2016-02-01)
Gas hydrate deposits which are found in deep ocean sediments and in permafrost regions are supposed to be a fossil fuel reserve for the future. The Black Sea is also considered rich in terms of gas hydrates. It abundantly contains gas hydrates as methane (CH4 similar to 80-99.9%) source. In this study, by using the literature seismic and other data of the Black Sea such as salinity, porosity of the sediments, common gas type, temperature distribution and pressure gradient, it was estimated that up to 71.8 (...
Studies On Dodecaborate Dianion And Carborate Anion Amination And Their Use In Stabilization Of Aryldiazonium Cations
Ünver, Ozan; Akdağ, Akın; Department of Chemistry (2022-2)
Boron is one of the most interesting elements in the periodic table. Boron chemistry is not ordinary due to the bonding. The bonding in boron related compounds is classified as non-classical bonds. Due to the bonding nature of boron, boron clusters have interesting properties, i.e. weakly coordinating ability. With this in mind, in this thesis, dodecaborate dianion and carborate anion were synthesized. The synthesized boron cages were derivatized and were subjected to amination reactions with two different ...
Investigation of the recharge and discharge mechanisms of a complex aquifer system by using environmental isotopes and noble gases
Arslan, Şebnem; Yazıcıgil, Hasan; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
This study aims to determine the recharge, discharge and the mixing mechanisms of a complex aquifer system located above the Kazan trona ore field using the environmental isotopes of deuterium, oxygen-18, carbon-13 and carbon-14, chlorofluorocarbons (CFC- 11, CFC-12 and CFC-113) and the noble gas isotopes (He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe). The groundwater system consists of three different aquifers: shallow, middle and deep. The Akpınar formation lying between deep and middle systems acts as an aquitard. Oxygen-18 an...
Spatial variations in gas and stable isotope compositions of thermal fluids around Lake Van: Implications for crust-mantle dynamics in eastern Turkey
Mutlu, Halim; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan; Hilton, David R.; Aydın, Harun; Halldorsson, Saemundur A. (2012-03-18)
We investigate the helium (He-3/He-4) and carbon (delta C-13) isotope compositions and relative abundance ratios (CO2/He-3) of gas samples together with the stable isotope compositions of dissolved carbon and sulfur and the oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions of the associated water phase from a number of geothermal fields located around Lake Van in eastern Anatolia, Turkey. The mantle-derived helium component, which is likely transferred to the crust beneath eastern Turkey by recent magmatism, is fou...
