Out-of-autoclave(ooA)treatments in composite manufacturing draw the attention ofmanufacturers anddesigners in aerospace industry by offering numerous advantages over the traditional autoclave processing. Besides, thin ply non crimp fabric (TPNCF) architecture is proven for improved delamination resistance and fracture toughness. The objective of the study is comparingthe bending strength of flat and curved beams of TPNCF [0/45] and Unidirectional (UD)[0/45] autoclaved andooA CFRP parts. The 4-point bending experiment results show that the selection of TPNCF architecture in complex geometries provides an improved strength for ooA specimens.

Effect of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Additively Manufactured 18Ni300 Maraging Steels
Aydın, İbrahim; Yağmur, Aydın; Tirkeş, Süha; Gür, Cemil Hakan (2021-09-01)
Recently, additive manufacturing of maraging steels has gained importance as an alternative to the traditional manufacturing techniques for aerospace components. In this study, various procedures were conducted to find optimum homogenization and aging treatment parameters for 18Ni300 parts that were additively manufactured via Selective Laser Melting (SLM).
Effect of annealing on the mechanical properties of pla parts produced by fused filament fabrication
Aydın, Sencer; Özerinç, Sezer; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2021-9-01)
Additive manufacturing has become a disruptive technology for the production of load bearing components in a wide range of applications. Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is among the most effective and economical techniques for the printing of polymeric parts. There are numerous thermoplastic materials suitable for FFF. Among these, Polylactic acid (PLA) is a renewable, sustainable and cost-effective alternative. For better utilization of PLA parts produced by FFF, there is a need to understand the structur...
Effect of fused deposition modeling process parameters on the mechanical properties of recycled polyethylene terephthalate parts
Bakir, Ali Alperen; Atik, Resul; Özerinç, Sezer (Wiley, 2020-08-01)
Fused deposition modeling (FDM) filaments made of recycled materials are desirable for environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing of prototypes and load-bearing components in many applications. We investigate the effect of FDM process parameters on the mechanical properties of 3D-printed parts made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) filaments. Increasing the nozzle temperature from 230 degrees C to 260 degrees C improves the strength of the specimens by 100%. Using a raster orientatio...
Role of Laminate Thickness on Sequential Dynamic Delamination of Curved [90/0] CFRP Composite Laminates
Uyar, Imren; Tasdemir, B.; Yavas, D.; Çöker, Demirkan (2016-06-09)
In aerospace industry, high demand for the lightweight structures are fostering the use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites in a wide variety of shapes, as primary load carrying elements. However, once a composite laminate takes a highly curved shape, such as an L-shape, interlaminar stresses augmented in the curved region cause highly dynamic delamination nucleation and propagation. This paper provides experimental observations of dynamic delamination failure in cross-plied L-shaped composite lam...
Effect of welding parameters on the hot cracking behavior of 7039 aluminum - zinc alloy
Akkuş, Mert; Gürbüz, Rıza; Batıgün, Caner; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2010)
7039 aluminum alloys are widely being used in the aerospace, automotive and defense industries in which welding technique is used for their joining. The main problem encountered during the welding of 7039 aluminum alloy is hot cracking. The aim of this study is to understand the effect of welding parameters on the hot cracking behavior of 7039 aluminum alloy by using Modified Varestraint Test (MVT) with Gas Tunsgten Arc Welding (GTAW) technique. During tests, welding speed was selected as varying parameter,...
